SETTING THE SCENE The Cleveland State women’s basketball team will return home this weekend after a three-game roadswing, hosting Bowling Green on Saturday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m. Entering Saturday’s contest, which will be held at Quicken Loans Arena downtown Cleveland, the Vikings are 1-4 after picking up their first win of the season at Kent State last time out. Bowling Green enters the weekend with a 4-2 record, and will be going for its third straight win on the season. A WIN SATURDAY WOULD… Give the Vikings back-to-back wins...Mark Cleveland State’s first victory at home this season...Keep the Vikings perfect during the month of December...Bring Kate Peterson Abiad within nine wins of the 175th of her head coaching career. THE CLEVELAND STATE/BOWLING GREEN SERIES This will be the 12th meeting between the two teams, and the first since the 2003-04 season. Bowling Green owns an 8-3 advantage in the overall series, and has posted six straight wins against the Vikings, including an 82-67 decision (1/3/04) the last time the two teams met. LAST TIME OUT The Vikings picked up their first win of the 2015-16 season last time out, posting a 6049 victory at Kent State. Cleveland State was led by Olivia Voskuhl (14 pts, 11 rbs) and Ashanti Abshaw (11 pts, 13 rbs) who both posted double-doubles against the Golden Flashes. As a team, the Vikings posted 11 steals at Kent State, and recorded 15 assists on their 22 made field goals.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS Bowling Green enters Saturday’s contest with a 4-2 record on the year, and has won two straight contests entering the weekend, with wins over Evansville and Jacksonville...BGSU’s other two wins on the season came against Illinois State and Bradley to open the season...Lauren Tibbs is the lone Falcon to be averaging double-digit points on the season, posting a team-high 12.2 points per game...Tibbs is also Bowling Green’s top rebounder, averaging 7.7 boards per contest...For the season, BGSU is shooting 42-percent from the field, and has shot 50-percent or better in its last two games...The Falcons return eight letterwinners from the 2014-15 season, including four starters. DOUBLE THE FUN Saturday will be the first of seven doubleheaders for the Cleveland State men’s and women’s basketball teams this season, as the Viking men will take on Kent State following the women’s game versus Bowling Green. This will be the only non-league doubleheader for the basketball teams, as the other six will come later in the season during Horizon League play. The women’s opponents on doubleheader dates will be; Bowling Green (Dec. 5), Green Bay (Jan. 7), Milwaukee (Jan. 9), Detroit (Feb. 4), Oakland (Feb. 6), UIC (Feb. 25), and Valparaiso (Feb. 27). Over the past seven years, Cleveland State has notched 18 sweeps in 27 twinbills, as the men and women have matching 22-5 records in doubleheader games. VIKINGS AT THE Q Saturday will also be the first of two games at Quicken Loans Arena for the women’s team during the 2015-16 season. The Vikings will also play downtown at The Q on Saturday, February 27, hosting Valparaiso at 11:00 a.m. Between both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, the Vikings will play seven games at Quicken Loans Arena during the 2015-16 season. CLEVELAND STATE VS. THE MAC Bowling Green will be the second of three Mid-American Conference opponents for the Vikings this season, as Cleveland State just played Kent State (12/2) and will face Toledo (12/12) next weekend. So far this season, the Vikings are 1-0 against MAC opponents after posting a 60-49 victory at Kent State. NEW VIKINGS IN THE STARTING LINEUP So far this season the Vikings have tried out four different starting lineups, including five players who notched the first starts of their collegiate careers. Against Bucknell, Ashanti Abshaw, Khayla Livingston, and Allison Mitchell posted their first career starts, while Shadae Bosley earned a starting nod for the first time in her career at Belmont, and Kayla Patterson made an appearance in the starting lineup for the first time at Kent State last time out. SEEING DOUBLE AT KENT STATE Last time out, Cleveland State had two players record double-doubles, as Olivia Voskuhl posted the first double-double of her career and Ashanti Abshaw notched the second of her career. Voskuhl finished the game with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, while Abshaw posted 11 points and a career-high 13 boards. Voskuhl and Abshaw combined for 24 of Cleveland State’s 41 rebounds against Kent State and 25 of CSU’s 60 points.

...ABSHAW IN THE HORIZON LEAGUE STATS Redshirt freshman Ashanti Abshaw enters Saturday’s contest against Bowling Green ranked in the top-10 in scoring and rebounding among Horizon League players - one of just four players to rank in the top-10 in both categories. Abshaw, who has tallied double-digit points in all five games this season, ranks ninth averaging 14.2 points per game and ranks 10th averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. Abshaw leads the Vikings in both statistical categories this season. AIDEYMAN FROM BEHIND-THE-ARC Redshirt junior Adesuwa Aideyman has been Cleveland State’s top three-point shooter so far this season, ranking sixth among Horizon League players averaging 2.4 three-point field goals per game. Last time out, Aideyman was 4-for-9 from behind-the-arc, marking the second straight game that she has converted four shots from three-point range. For her career, Aideyman ranks ninth in the CSU career record book with a .341 three-point field goal percentage and is just shy of recording 75 three-pointers, entering Saturday’s game with 73 converted shots from behind-the-arc. VIKINGS ON THE DEFENSIVE END Through just five games this season Cleveland State has posted 56 steals and has forced its opponents into 94 turnovers. The Vikings have forced at least 14 turnovers in each game, including a season-high of 23 at Belmont and Kent State. Among Horizon League teams, Cleveland State ranks third with a +3.2 turnover margin and also ranks second averaging 11.2 steals per contest. …SMITH LEAGUE LEADER IN STEALS Individually, Brooke Smith has been one of Cleveland State’s top defensive players, notching 19 steals through just five games. Against Belmont earlier this season, Smith posted a career-high six steals, and enters Saturday’s contest leading the Horizon League averaging 3.8 steals per game this year. HEAD COACH KATE PETERSON ABIAD Cleveland State head coach Kate Peterson Abiad is in her 13th season at the helm of the Vikings, owning a 165-209 career mark at CSU. Peterson Abiad became the winningest coach in program history during the 2011-12 season, and eclipsed the 150-win mark last year. During her tenure, Peterson Abiad has led the Vikings to five 19-win seasons, two Horizon League Tournament Championships, and four trips to the postseason (2015-WNIT, 2011-WBI, 2010-NCAA, 2008-NCAA). Head Coach | 13th Season • Owns a 13-year head coaching mark of 165-209 (.441). • Notched the 150th victory of her head coaching career last season with a 69-67 victory over Kent State (12/7/14). • Has led the Vikings to 19 wins or more during five seasons, including a 21-12 mark during 2010-11 which marks the second most wins in school history. • Became the all-time winningest coach at Cleveland State on February 18, 2012, with a 70-68 victory over Milwaukee. • Is the only coach in CSU history to guide the Vikings to the NCAA tournament (2008 & 2010). • Guided the Vikings to the Horizon League Tournament titles in both 2008 and 2010. • Took over as the sixth head coach in school history on April 25, 2003. • Assistant coach at Wisconsin from 1997-2002, helping the Badgers to a 104-79 record, three NCAA appearances, an NIT Championship (2000) and NIT runner-up finish (1999). • Served as assistant coach at Eastern Illinois (1993-97) and Indiana (1991-93). • Four year starter and 1991 Team MVP at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, earning all-league honors in 1990 & 1991. • Inducted into UW-Stevens Point Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 30, 2000 & River Falls High School Athletic Hall of Fame on July 29, 2011. • A native of River Falls, Wis., she is married to Phil Abiad, an assistant volleyball coach at CSU, and the couple has a four-year old daughter, Mea.
