Giving our finances, influence, skills and time is not something we do in our own strength. Read 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 and notice every time the word “grace” is used. (A commentary or comparing translations may help identify the 10 times the Greek word is used in these chapters.) According to Paul, how does the grace of God empower us to live generously?
2.
What principles about proportionate giving—giving based on how God has blessed us—do you find in 2 Corinthians 8:1-15? Which principle do you need to apply to your own giving?
3.
Generous living does not happen by accident (see 1 Corinthians 16:2). As we conclude this series, take time to consider a specific way you can be more intentional in your giving.
Generous living is intentional. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Four principles of intentional generous living:
Firstly – Generous living is to be our first priority. (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Proportionately – The more you have, the more you have to live generously. (1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 8:12)
Generously – We are to give freely and liberally of our God-given finances, influence, skills and time. (2 Corinthians 9:6)
Sacrificially – We are to surrender our needs and desires in order to help others and advance the cause of Christ. (2 Corinthians 8:1-4)
