FCS HEADLINES u North Dakota State picked up its sixth-straight win against an FBS program last Saturday against No. 11/13 Iowa. It was NDSU’s first win against a ranked FBS opponent during its streak, and marked the fourth all-time for an FCS team. The Bison win helped them garner enough votes to rank No. 27 in the ‘other’ top-25 poll, tied with UCLA. FCS WINS VS. FACES of the FCS

u The FCS has eight wins against FBS teams this season, one off last year’s pace. This weekend, six FCS teams face FBS teams. u The Southland Conference and Frisco CVB are working together on a new season-long promotion, the Road to Frisco. This will originate from the Frisco CVB’s various social media platforms. The #RoadToFrisco FCS Game of the Week is Jacksonville State at Liberty. u Just one matchup this weekend features two top-25 teams pitted against one another: GAMES FEATURING TWO TOP-25 TEAMS (courtesy STATS):   #23 Colgate at # 7 Richmond, 2:30 pm CT (CCSN)

Rashad Jennings (Liberty) is in his 8th season with the New York Giants. He leads the team in rushing yards this year, and has more than 3,000 in his career, with 20 career rushing TDs.

u A total of 121 players from current FCS made opening-day NFL rosters. Every NFL team (but one) has at least one former FCS player. u Notably, six teams in the Top 25 are idle this weekend.

Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Eastern Washington claimed a 34-30 win over UNI, scoring on a fake field goal. Cal Poly earned a win over top-ten South Dakota State, 38-31, rushing for over 400 yards. North Dakota earned a thrilling win over South Dakota, 47-44, in double overtime. The Big Sky finished the season going 4-3 against the Missouri Valley, with five of the seven games coming on the road. The Big Sky Conference has four teams that are nationally ranked, with No. 4/5 Eastern Washington leading the pace, followed by No. 6/6 Montana. Portland State is ranked at 25th in the both the STATS and FCS Coaches’ Polls, while Northern Arizona is ranked 25th in the Coaches’ Poll, and receiving votes in the STATS poll. Cal Poly is unranked, in spite of a road win over a top-ten program, along with a Division I win (San Diego) and an overtime FBS loss (Nevada). ROOT SPORTS will begin its coverage of the 2016 #BigSkyFB season this Saturday, as No. 6 Montana travels to play at Cal Poly. The game will kick off at 12:00 p.m. PST on ROOT SPORTS. Monmouth is 0-2 in its Big South lidlifters, but has 12 conference-opening victories to its credit in the program’s first 23 years. The next Big South game after this weekend is Oct. 8. Gardner-Webb is the only Big South member to rush for more than 200 yards in each of the first three games this season, which is also the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ first such streak to open a season as Big South members (since 2002). The last time GWU rushed for 200 yards in three consecutive games was in 2002 when the squad spun off six straight 200 rushing games from Sept. 21 to Nov. 9. For the fourth consecutive week, the Big South will go head-to-head against a nationally-ranked non-conference opponent when Liberty hosts No. 3/4 Jacksonville State Saturday night. It is the league’s longest such regular-season string against nationally-ranked non-league foes since 2012, when the Big South faced a ranked opponent the first five weeks of the season. The Big Green’s win over UNH was its first over the Wildcats since 1976, ending a 20-game winless streak against their cross-state rivals. It marked the first win over a ranked opponent for the Big Green since a 28-24 victory over No. 19 Princeton in 2013. Sacred Heart, which is off to a 3-0 start for the third time in the last four seasons, has not allowed any second-half points thus far this season and owns the league’s second-ranked scoring defense (11.3 ppg). Wagner will play its first of two Division I FBS opponents this season when it visits ACC member Boston College on Week 4 (Sept. 24). It marked the 13th time in OVC history that feat has been accomplished and the first time anyone has done it at the FCS level in 2016.
