FACES of the FCS

u The Southland Conference and Frisco CVB are working together on a new season-long promotion, the Road to Frisco. This will originate from the Frisco CVB’s various social media platforms. The #RoadToFrisco FCS Game of the Week is Chattanooga at The Citadel. It marks the first time two Top 10 SoCon teams will play one another in four seasons. u Notably, three teams in the Top 25 are idle this weekend. A total of five matchups this weekend pit two top-25 teams against each another: GAMES FEATURING TWO TOP-25 TEAMS:   #7 James Madison (5-1) at #25 New Hampshire (4-2), 11 am CT (ASN)   #5 Chattanooga (6-0) at #8 Citadel (5-0), 2 pm CT (ESPN3)   #11 South Dakota State (3-2) at #1 North Dakota State (5-0), 2:30 pm (NBC ND/E3)   #13 Villanova (5-1) at #6 Richmond (5-1), 2:30 pm CT (CCSN)   #21 UNI (2-3) at #14 Youngstown State (4-1), 6 pm CT (ESPN3)

RB David Johnson (Northern Iowa) of the Arizona Cardinals ranks third in the NFL in rushing yards with 457 in his first 5 games this season. He also has 238 yards on 17 receptions in 2016.

u A total of 16 Division I teams are perfect, including five in the FCS. Chattanooga visits The Citadel in a battle of SoCon unbeatens; North Dakota State hosts South Dakota State; Harvard is at Holy Cross and Sam Houston State hosts Abilene Christian. BIG SKY -- The Big Sky Conference has four teams that are ranked, including Eastern Washington, Montana, North Dakota and Cal Poly. The

Eagles are on a bye this week, after rocketing to a 5-1 start to the season. The Eagles’ lone loss? A 50-44 overtime defeat to North Dakota State at the Fargodome, on Sept. 10. Montana is fresh of a dominating 67-7 victory over Mississippi Valley State, where the Griz held the Delta Devils to -61 yards rushing. North Dakota, who is off to a 3-0 start in league play, will host defending #BigSkyFB champion Southern Utah, at 1:00 p.m. CST. That game is available on www.watchbigsky.com. This week’s ROOT SPORTS Game of the Week features the Weber State Wildcats, who are 2-0 in Big Sky play, and the Montana State Bobcats, who are still searching for their first league win under coach Jeff Choate. The Wildcats and Bobcats kick off at 1:30 p.m. MST, on ROOT SPORTS and DirecTV’s Audience Network. Offensive: QB Gabe Gubrud, Eastern Washington | Defensive: Siupeli Anau, Northern Arizona | Special Teams: Tate Lewis, Southern Utah BIG SOUTH -- Gardner-Webb QB Tyrell Maxwell’s 87-yard TD run against Presbyterian was the longest rush from scrimmage by a quarter-

back in Big South history, bettering the old record of 77 yards. Maxwell’s rush is the second-longest in league annals, but the longest against a Division I opponent. Meanwhile, Maxwell had a 74-yard completion for a TD to Kyle Horton to become the first quarterback in the Big South record book with an 80-yard TD rush and 70-yard TD pass in the same game. Maxwell became just the second quarterback in Big South history with 200 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in the same game when he threw for 222 and rushed for 155 this past Saturday against PC. Kennesaw State QB Chandler Burks is the first quarterback in Big South history to score three rushing touchdowns in consecutive games -- which also ties teammate Trey White for most career 3-TD rushing games by a QB. Burks rushed for three scores in Week 5 at Furman, and scored another three TDs this past Saturday against Missouri S&T. He has rushed for a touchdown in four consecutive contests, and his eight rushing scores are the third-most in a season by a Big South quarterback. Monmouth RB Lavon Chaney became the Big South’s career leader for most receptions by a running back when he broke the record this past Saturday at Howard. Chaney’s 79 career catches out of the backfield surpassed the old mark of 77 that was held by De’Angelo Henderson. Chaney’s 649 career receiving yards are also second-most among Big South running backs, and 82 away from Henderson’s record of 731. Off: RB Tyrell Maxwell, Gardner-Webb | Def: LB Chad Geter, Gardner-Webb | Specialty: P/K Matt Mosquera, Monmouth | Freshman: DB Jaylan Foster, Gardner-Webb

CAA FOOTBALL -- The Week 7 schedule in CAA Football is highlighted by a pair of televised matchups featuring teams ranked in the Top 25 nationally. No. 7/6 James Madison (5-1, 3-0 in CAA) travels to No. 25 New Hampshire (4-2, 3-0 in CAA) in a Noon contest televised by the American Sports Network. At 3:30 p.m., No. 6/7 Richmond (5-1, 2-1 in CAA) hosts No. 13/11 Villanova (5-1, 3-0 in CAA) in a game televised by Comcast SportsNet. Five of the six CAA Football games last week were decided by seven points or less. Road teams went 4-2 in CAA Football action last week and visitors are now 9-7 for the season. Richmond’s Brian Brown, who became the Spiders’ career leader in receiving yards on Sept. 24, needs 17 more to move into the top 10 on CAA Football’s career list. He currently had 3,333 yards and is chasing Northeastern’s Cory Parks (3,350 yds) for the #10 spot. Brown caught 76 passes for 1,450 yards in 2015, had 79 catches for 1,089 yards as a sophomore and currently tops the CAA with 38 receptions for 615 yards and 5 TD’s this season. He’s the first player in program history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns and is on pace to make it three in a row. CAA Football features six players among the top 29 in the FCS in rushing. Delaware’s Wes Hills ranks fourth with 133.3 ypg and is followed by JMU’s Khalid Abdullah (132.8 ypg/5th), UAlbany’s Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks (117.8 ypg/11th), UNH’s Dalton Crossan (103.2 ypg/20th), JMU’s Cardon Johnson (98.3 ypg/23rd) and Towson’s Darius Victor (88.5 ypg/29th). Over the first six weeks of the season, 22 different CAA players have rushed for at least 100 yards in a game and all 12 CAA teams have had at least one player reach the century mark this season. Offense: RB Wes Hills, Delaware | Defense: DB Jaheem Woods, Stony Brook | Specialty: PK Morgan Ellman, New Hampshire | Rookie: RB Deontez Thompson, Richmond IVY LEAGUE -- Harvard (4-0, 2-0 Ivy) took over sole possession of first-place in the Ivy League standings with a 29-13 win over previously

undefeated Cornell (3-1, 1-1 Ivy). Penn (2-2) and Princeton (3-1) stand a half game behind the Crimson with matching 1-0 Ivy records. Columbia (1-3, 0-1) picked up its first victory of 2016 with a 15-13 win over Wagner, which came into the contest in the receiving votes category of the STATS FCS Top 25 poll. Lions freshman PK Oren Milstein made all five of his FGs to account for his team’s scoring, setting a Columbia single-game record. Milstein became the 11th Ivy to make five field goals in a single game and the first since Penn’s Jimmy Gammil on Oct. 11, 2014. As a League, #IvyFootball went 3-1 in non-conference action on Saturday to improve its overall 2016 non-conference mark to 11-9 (.550). Harvard moved up in the national rankings, coming in at No. 15 in the Coaches poll and 20 in the STATS Top 25. Penn and Cornell also appear in the national rankings, receiving votes in the STATS poll. The upcoming week is highlighted by Columbia head coach Al Bagnoli’s return to Penn, where he coached for 23 years and won nine Ivy titles. The game will be broadcast on ONE World Sports and The Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN), which is now available on the ILDN app on Apple TV and Roku. Offense: QB John Lovett, Princeton | Defense: DB Tanner Lee, Harvard | Specialty: PK Oren Milstein, Columbia | Co-Rookie: Milstein & RB Alan Lamar, Yale MEAC -- The ESPNU football telecast between Bethune-Cookman University and North Carolina A&T State University, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13, has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. The contest has been moved due to the damages sustained to BCU and the city of Daytona Beach, Fla. The contest will be carried live on ESPN3 and televised on ESPNU at 10:30 p.m. EST Saturday night. Also, the Bethune-Cookman-South Carolina State and Morgan State-Savannah State football contests, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, have both been rescheduled to Saturday, Nov. 26. Both games were postponed due to the weather threat posed by Hurricane Matthew and the States of Emergency issued by the states of Georgia and South Carolina. Last week, N.C. A&T senior RB Tarik Cohen rushed for 200 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. In the process, he became the MEAC’s all-time leading rusher, breaking the record of Will Ford who played for South Carolina State from 2006-09. Cohen also became the Aggies all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 5,489 as he toppled the old mark held by former Aggies punt returner, kick returner and wide receiver Herbert Harbison (5,383). Offensive: RB Tarik Cohen, North Carolina A&T State | Offensive: RB Anthony Philyaw, Howard | Defensive: DE Calvin Darville, Florida A&M Lineman: LT Darriel Mack, North Carolina A&T | Rookie: WR Fatu Sua-Godinet, Delaware State | ST: PK Anthony Prevost, Hampton

MISSOURI VALLEY -- QB Taryn Christion of South Dakota State has a career TD/Interception ratio of 6.75, with 27 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. This year, it’s 20:1. The best FCS ratio in the past 20 seasons was San Diego’s Josh Johnson (43 touchdowns and only 1 INT in 2007). Youngstown State has not yielded a rushing TD this season, and the Penguins are the only FCS team to do so. Three teams are tied for second for fewest rushing TDs, including UNI, Wofford and Central Arkansas (each with two). In the past 20 years, the only MVFC team to yield fewer than 5 rushing TDs in an entire season was the 2009 UNI Panthers -- 4, in an 11-game schedule. UNI has the toughest schedule in the FCS, based on cumulative opposition (winning percentage of past and future opponents), through games of Oct. 8. Four MVFC teams rank among the Top 12 in the FCS. Offense -- QB Taryn Christion, South Dakota State | Defense -- DE Derek Rivers, Youngstown State | Special Teams -- P Mark Schuler, Youngstown State Newcomer -- QB Chris Streveler, South Dakota | Lineman -- LG Sepestiano Pupungatoa, South Dakota State

NEC -- There’ll be a day-night #NECFB doubleheader on ESPN3 this Saturday (Oct. 15). First, Wagner visits Central Connecticut at 12:00 pm ET. Then, defending NEC champion Duquesne opens its conference schedule against Robert Morris in the annual Steel City Showdown at 7:00 pm. Duquesne’s Austin Crimmins (Field Goals) and Christian Kuntz (TFL) are national FCS leaders. Three different NEC players – Robert Morris’ Dante Satcher, Saint Francis’ Lorenzo Jerome and Sacred Heart’s Nate Chavious -- have returned a kickoff for a touchdown this season. Satcher, who leads Division I FCS in kickoff return average (43.1 ypr), has already done it twice. Jerome, who finished first amongst the leading FCS returners last season, has three kickoff returns of at least 74 yards in length this year (including a 79-yard TD at Montana in Week 1.)
