5 Steps to Achieving Your Goals and Transforming Your Life

Step #1: What are your goals? One of the best ways to get clarity and specificity on your goals is to write them out in detail. Think of this as a request to the Universe, or what physicists call the Quantum Field - sending out your intention to the other people involved in your goal. Include every possible detail. Write down your specific goals here.

Goal #1 Ex. Own a 5,000 sq. ft Spanish-style home, nestled in the hills of Santa Ynez with an infinity pool, tennis courts, stables for my horses, and a three-car garage. It will have abstract paintings inside and a perfectly landscaped exterior with palms, jasmine, and exotic flowers. There will be sound system in each room as well as outside by the pool for entertaining.

Step #2: What’s your breakthrough goal? In addition to your measurable and specific goals from #1, set up a breakthrough goal that would represent a quantum leap for you and your career. Most goals represent incremental improvements in your life, but what if you could accomplish something that would change your life drastically? Think of it like this: A goal is similar to a football play that gains you 4 yards. But what if you could come out on the first play of the game and throw a 50-yard pass? That would be a leap in your progress down the field: a breakthrough goal. Just as there are plays in football that move you far up the field in one move there are plays in life that will do the same thing. The achievement of this one goal will change everything. If you focus on those a little each day until you achieve it, isn’t it a goal worth pursuing with passion? Now, write down your breakthrough goal.

Breakthrough Goal Ex. Lose 60 pounds, appear on Oprah, win a gold medal at the Olympics, create a killer website, get your master’s or doctoral degree, host your own radio show, etc.

Step #3: What steps can you take to achieve your breakthrough goal? What’s the one small thing you can do each day to build confidence to accomplish it? Chunk it down. So let’s figure out what series of small, achievable tasks will ultimately lead to your breakthrough goal. To determine these action steps, you can do several things: 1. Ask someone who’s already done what you want to do, and ask what steps they took. Remember it’s okay to not know how to do something. 2. Purchase a book or course that outlines the process. 3. Start from the end and look backward. Close your eyes and imagine that it is now the future and you’ve achieved your goal. What was the last thing you did? And the thing before that? Write these down until you arrive at the first action you had to start with. 4. Use Mind-Mapping. This will allow you to determine what information you’ll need to gather, who you’ll need to talk to, what small steps you’ll need to earn or raise and so on.

Step #4: What are the limiting factors to achieving your goals? Considerations, Fears, and Roadblocks. What, in the present moment, is holding you back from accomplishing your goal? These are your limiting beliefs and obstacles. Surfacing these considerations is a good thing. If you acknowledge these subconscious thoughts that have been stopping you all along, you can deal with them, confront them and move past them.

Step 5: Practice Visualization Set aside 10-15 minutes each day to visualize every one of your goals from this ‘5 Steps to Overcoming Your Limiting Beliefs, Achieving Your Goals & Transforming Your Life’ Guide. This is one of the most powerful things you can do to make your dreams come true. Some psychologists are claiming that one hour of visualization is worth 7 hours of physical effort.

Daily Visualization Practice: Close your eyes and see your goals as already complete. If one of your objectives is to own a company you built from the ground up, then close your eyes and see yourself in the office. What does your office look like? How many employees are working for you? What are you working on in that moment? Go through each detail in depth, imagining the images as clear and bright as possible. Review the goals you’ve written down in the previous exercise, affirm them, and visualize them every day. Each morning when you awake and each night before you go to sleep, read each of them aloud, visualize the completed goal and continue until all are complete. This whole process will take between 10 and 15 minutes depending on how many goals you are visualizing. Try meditating after your visualization to reach a deepened state which will heighten the impact of your visualization.
