A student publication represents the school with which it is associated and thus has responsibilities toward all the members of that school. The editors of the publication shall have freedom of the press within the following guidelines: a. b.

no material(s) shall be printed which would materially and substantially interfere with the educative process or intrude upon the rights of others; no material(s) shall be printed which shall be libelous or obscene.

If the faculty advisor and/or the Building Principal or his/her designee declines to approve, in whole or in part, any material proposed for inclusion in a school publication, the affected student(s) may appeal such denial to the Superintendent of Schools. The Superintendent or his/her designated representative shall review the material and, within two school days of the date of submission of the appeal, shall render a determination with respect to the material.

Written and printed materials shall not be distributed on school property by students without the prior written approval of the Principal. A copy of the material proposed to be disseminated shall be submitted to the Principal by the involved students at least five school days prior to the time of anticipated distribution. The Principal shall respond to the request for distribution within two school days of the request. If the Principal approves distribution, he/she shall specify the time, place, manner and duration of distribution of such materials. If the Principal declines to approve such distribution, he/she shall state in writing the basis for that decision. The Principal shall be guided by the following criteria: a. b.
