The Camco* type A-1 Injection Safety Valve is designed to prevent wells from flowing back or blowing out in the event of an emergency. The A-1 will open at preset injection flow rates†, have unlimited setting depth and, are suitable for severely corrosive environments. These valves are available to 10,000-psi [68,950-kPa] working pressure. The A-1 prolongs the life of the valve by protecting the flapper from erosive injection flow. The A-1 is available in a variety of materials and features an innovative and field-proven flapper closure system. This premium flapper mechanism has full, metal­-tometal sealing plus a secondary soft seat, and it meets a leakage­acceptance criterion that is substantially more stringent than API and ISO specifications. The A-1 Injection Safety Valve is “normally closed”, and open with dif­ferential pressure created by the injection flow. Operation The A-1 Series Injection Valve with the appropriate lock and equalizing sub†† are installed in a landing nipple in the tubing string using con­ventional slickline methods. Open The A-1 Series Injection Valve opens when injection flow reaches a predetermined rate. The spring-loaded flow tube holds the flapper open and out of the injection­stream flow path, providing an unobstructed flow bore through the inside diameter of the valve. Close The A-1 Series Injection Valve close when injection ceases.
