All-Americas JAMES “Lindy” HOOD All-America 1930 6-5 • Center Collinsville 3L • 1929-30-31

• Although complete statistics are not available on Hood, he was not only Alabama’s first All-America but the first All-American ever named from the entire Southern Region. • Hood was named All-America in 1930, the year the Tide went 20-0, the only undefeated season in Alabama basketball history. • When Hood was selected All-America, only five players were chosen nationally. Hood was the All-America team’s center. • The Collinsville, Ala., weekly newspaper wrote on Hood’s All-America selection, “we have a boy from our midst that we should all be duly proud, our own Lindy Hood who was chosen as one of the best boys of the entire United States to play center in basketball.” • Hood was nicknamed “Lindy” because of his striking resemblance to then hero of the day Charles Lindbergh. Hood was mistaken for Lindbergh while walking through a New Orleans airport and onlookers flocked to get his autograph.
