ARCHITECT LEAVES A LEGACY Some of Lansing’s most iconic buildings were designed and built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by Darius B. Moon. Born in 1841, Moon moved with his family from New York in 1854 and grew up on a farm in Delta Center. The log cabin in which they lived was moved to Woldumar Nature Center in 1980. Among Moon’s most illustrious clients were Ransom E. Olds, whose mansion at 720 South Washington was demolished in 1971 to make room for the Olds Freeway (I-496),as well as Edward E. Sparrow and Henry Kositchek. A few Darius B. Moon creations remain in the area, including his own residence, built originally at 116 South Logan Street (moved in 1975 to Huron Street), where he lived until his death in 1939.
