Jesus denied Himself during His “trial.” (Mark 14:55-65)
Peter denied Jesus during his “trial.” (Mark 14:53-54, 66-72)
Deny yourself for the sake of Jesus’ mission!
1. Read Mark 8:34 and 14:53-65. Why did Jesus stay silent concerning the false accusations but then answered the question about His identity? How do you see Jesus denying himself for the sake of God’s purpose and mission?
2. Read Mark 14:66-72. Rather than denying himself, Peter denies Jesus three times. Where was his focus? What might have led him to do this? What does his response when he recalled Jesus’ words (14:72) indicate about the struggle in his heart?
3. Read 1 Peter 2:20-25. What lesson(s) years later did Peter teach based on Jesus’ example? What change did God make in Peter’s heart over the years? What change does God want to make in yours?
