21st October 2016 Dear Parents / Carers, Not much in the newsletter as I’ve been at PGL with Year 6 all week. Unfortunately, there is a little nagging just before the half term break…sorry.
Coats Now that the weather is getting colder and wetter, please make sure that your child comes to school in a suitable coat. It may seem an obvious thing to ask, but some children in Year 3 did not have a coat this week.
Road Safety outside School As I’ve said on many occasions before, we have been asking parents NOT to drive up Exchange Road at drop off and pick up time for as long as I can remember....and that goes back to 1991 when I first joined the school. The same goes for Stanley Road. I know we can’t make people park further away and walk because, as a parent pointed out to me, “it is a public road and I’m entitled to drive on it”. However, I will continue to ask parents to support our stance. I know that everyone will be devastated if any child ends up being injured when we are just asking parents to be reasonable.
Please help us to keep our children safe Dukes Barn and PGL Meetings – Wednesday 9th November Just a reminder about the introductory meetings for parents for Dukes Barn and PGL 2017 on Wednesday 9th November. However, for new parents, I did forget to mention which meetings are for which parents. So, the meetings are as follows:
Wednesday 9th November (both meetings at Cottages)
5.30pm Dukes Barn Meeting for Year 4 parents 6.15pm PGL Meeting for Year 5 parents
We would encourage you to attend as there will be lots of information to share. We appreciate that neither visit is cheap and we want to give you as long as possible to pay in instalments if you wish. We also want ALL the children to go, so if you think payment may be a problem, please do get in touch as we want to support wherever we can.
Reply Slips for Sporting Fixtures If your child is chosen for a sport fixture that requires a return slip, please make sure that you complete it FULLY, as this will save us time phoning and checking. That includes the boxes about offering to drive and how your child is being collected afterwards, even if you can’t offer help with transport. Obviously, your offer of help with transport is essential and appreciated.
School Uniform and Shoes Recently there have been an increasing number of children coming to school in trainers. I did mention this back in the summer. I really do need Year 6 to set a good example to the rest of the school and have had a word with them. We would be grateful if parents could support us with this. Thanks.
Some Photographs of Year 6 at PGL
There will be lots more photos appearing on the website over the half-term holiday. A few photos did appear on Twitter whilst we were away, which gives the immediacy that parents enjoy. However, there are safeguarding regulations that limit these to being taken on school devices and the lack of connectivity at PGL meant a limit of Twitter photos. We also have children who are not allowed to appear on the internet, so that makes group shots difficult. Our staff worked really hard at PGL (24/7 and away from their families) and we did try hard with the photos, so I was disappointed by a small number of parents who found it necessary to voice their criticism about the lack of photographs by phoning the office. We are happy to receive constructive criticism, but I felt it was a little unfair and unnecessary on this occasion. However, thanks as always for your overwhelming support and appreciation for the trip.
