A HEALTHY CHURCH: GOOD WATER John 3:3-5 10302016AM INTRO: 3 days 8-10 days. Need water to live, Need water to be a part of the church, symbolic. John 3:3–5 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. In order to be born again, to be a part of the church, one must be born of Water&Spirit Holy Spirit 1. TO BE A PART OF THE CHURCH ONE IS BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST A. To be in Christ, we must follow what He says, Believe & Be Baptized. a. Christ says,He GIVES the Living Water, We need Him, His Gift to LIVE, 2B a Healthy church John 4:13–14 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” B. V10- says that he GIVES the Living Water Gal. 3:27-“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” C. NOTICE- clothed not sprinkled, dripped, or poured, but CLOTHED, COVERED a. CHRIST’S CHURCH- His Name Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” b. His church, His Death, Burial & Resurrection and our becoming United in Him & DBR Romans 6:3-5 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, c. 2B a healthy church we must teach the necessity of baptism! 2. TO BE A PART OF THE CHURCH ONE IS BAPTIZED INTO THE BODY A. There has never been one who has been added to the ekklessia, the called out without baptism 1 Cor. 12:13- For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Again we see through baptism we are all made to drink one spirit. B. Before baptism? No, after RCVD Word & were Baptized. Acts 2:41-So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. C. Water isn’t special, it is the work of God that provides the Holy Spirit revealed in us, delivered to us John 3:5- Water & Spirit D. To symbolize our DBR with Christ Look at Context of Jesus’ Baptism… “Came up” Mk. 1:10-Immediately coming up out of the water, Matthew 3:16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water 3. TO BE BAPTIZED ONE HAS TO BELIEVE FIRST A. You have to believe something before you can act on it MK. 16:16-"He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. B. Rom. 10:17- So faith comes from hearing
Acts 18:8-Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his household, and many of the Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized. C. Must believe before repenting before baptism. Acts 2:38 D. NOAH’S ARK- He that believes & enters ark will be saved, but he that doesn’tDestroyed b. Exodus- Water- Death thru Water to LIFE! c. Watery Grave of Baptism is what separates the lost from the saved. B. NO CONVERSION in ACTS that DOESN’T INCLUDE BAPTISM 5. BAPTISM GIVES US FORGIVENESS OF SINS Acts 2:38- Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. A. Eis- means “for”=Greek, not because-1600x in Greek, Never “because” Acts 22:16-'Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'
B. Forgiveness of sins takes place thru BAPTISM not BEFORE 6.
DOESN’T END WITH BAPTISM!!! A. Must continue to drink of the Water, must continue to drink of His Word, the living Word! 2 Peter 2:20–22 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them. 22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.” B. Not “Once saved, Always Saved” Heb. 10:26- For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, C. BEWARE!!! 1 Cor. 10:12- Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 1 Cor. 9:27- I (Paul) myself will not be disqualified. John 8:51- Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.” D. 4 QUESTIONS a. CAN ONE BE SAVED WITHOUT HAVING HIS SINS FORGIVEN? NO, Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life… Baptism is commanded to obtain forgiveness of sins. Acts 2:38, 22:16 b. CAN ONE BE SAVED WITHOUT BEING IN CHRIST? NO, 2 Tim. 2:10- “…so that they may obtain salvation which is in Christ Jesus…” Acts 4:12 Baptism brings one into Christ- Gal. 3:26-27; Rom. 6:3 c. CAN ONE BE SAVED WITHOUT BEING IN THE CHURCH, THE EKKLESSIA? NO, The Lord thru Baptism adds to church- Acts 2:38-47, 1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Eph. 5:23- Christ is head of the church, have to be part of it. d. CAN ONE BE SAVED WITHOUT OBEYING THE GOSPEL? NO, What is the Gospel? 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Rom. 6:3-5, Mk. 16:15-16 E. Saved through being buried with Him through the Waters of Baptism! F. Good Water!
