Blue Flame Athletes Perform Well at 2016 Region Strength Meet

On Saturday, February 13th, several Blue Flame athletes participated in the Region 6 Strength Meet hosted by the SC High School Strength Coaches’ Association. This year’s event, featuring over 200 athletes from Pickens, Oconee, and Anderson counties, was held at TL Hanna High School in Anderson. The meet serves as a Regional qualifier for the SCSCA State Strength Championships, which will be held at White Knoll High School on Saturday, March 19th.

The competition features 11 separate weight classes and 2 different age groups (Varsity: 16—18 year olds; JV: 13—15 year olds) performing in 3 events: Bench Press, Squats, and Standing Broad Jump. Several Blue Flame athletes brought home medals for finishing in the Top 3 in their respective weight classes: Jared Barton (3rd Place—JV 140) Bryson Capps (1st Place - JV 205) Yosvany Diaz (1st Place- JV 220) Braden Gravely (1st Place—JV 260+) Brandon Batson (1st Place Var 140) Hunter Galloway (1st Place—Var 235)

Because of their performances at the Region competition, Capps, Diaz, Gravely, Batson, and Galloway have qualified for the State Championships on March 19th.

News & Notes: Lifters of the Month (January) Our January lifters of the month were announced the first week of February.

These young men were selected by the coaching staff for their efforts and improvements in the weight room for the month of January. Please congratulate them for their hard work when you see them.

Ridge Clark Signs With St. Olaf College: Ridge Clark (DL, Pickens High School) signed his National Letter of Intent to attend St Olaf College in Minnesota on Wednesday, February 3rd.

The Blue Flame Family is very happy for Ridge’s opportunity to further his education and his football career at St. Olaf. Ridge started as a Defensive Lineman for the Blue Flame for the past 2 years and garnered All-Western AAA Honors this past year. Ridge will also be a thrower on the track team while attending St. Olaf. Page 2
