Goaltending duties have been split this season with both Sonja Shelly and Grace Harrison, logging six starts apiece. Shelly has a 2.12 goalsagainst average, a .911 save percentage and two shutouts with a 2-4-0 record. Harrison has a 1.42 GAA and a .949 save percentage with one shutout for a 4-1-1 record. Harrison ranks second in the ECAC in both goals-against average and save percentage. St. Lawrence has both the third-best combined GAA (1.71) and save percentage (.933) in the conference. BROWN LEADERS Sena Hanson leads the Bears in scoring with nine points on a teambest six goals and three assists. The junior was named ECAC Player of the Week on Nov. 5 after she recorded four goals, including two game winners, and one assist in two 4-3 upset victories over No. 9/10 Colgate (Nov. 2) and No. 6/6 Cornell (Nov. 3). Freshman Shay Maloney (1-78) is tied for second on the team in scoring with fellow rookie Lizzy Gross (5-3-8) with eight points. Maloney paces the Bears in assists with seven. Junior Calla Isaac leads the netminder group in starts with five and has a 2.65 GAA and a .928 save percentage. She was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week after she made 38 saves in both of Brown’s victories on Nov. 2-3, with 16 stops in a scoreless the third period versus the Raiders and 11 against the Big Red in another scoreless third. Freshman Hayley Kliczko has appeared in four games this season between the pipes, recording a 2.64 GAA and a .932 save percentage. The rookie recorded a career-best 44 saves at Union on Saturday, Nov. 10 in a 2-2 tie, including four saves in overtime. LAST TIME OUT Brown went 0-1-1 last weekend with a 1-0 loss at RPI on Friday, Nov. 9 and a 2-2 overtime tie at Union on Saturday, Nov. 10. The lone goal in the game against the Engineers was a power-play score in the second period. Freshman Hayley Kliczko concluded the matchup with 24 saves. On Saturday, the Bears put together another third period comeback, this time fighting to a 2-2 overtime tie with two goals in the third. The tie was Brown’s first tie in over two seasons, with the Bears last recording a tie on Feb. 5, 2016 at Harvard (3-3). Sophomore Darby Melia scored her first-career goal to get things started while freshman Tina Paolillo registered the game-tying tally. Kliczko finished the day with a career-high 44 saves. HOME SWEET HOME Brown is 4-0 this season at Meehan Auditorium with wins over Holy Cross (3-1, Oct. 19), UConn (5-3, Oct. 23), No. 9/10 Colgate (4-3, Nov. 2) and No. 6/6 Cornell (4-3, Nov. 3). The victories against the Huskies, Raiders and Big Red were all come-from-behind wins. THIRD PERIOD’S A CHARM The Bears are outscoring their opponents 10-3 in the third period this season. Brown has generated two come-from-behind wins in the third period this year, defeating UConn on Oct. 23 with a four-goal third, and knocking off No. 9/10 Colgate on Nov. 2 with the game-winner coming in the final frame. The Bears also battled back in the third at Union on Nov. 10, logging two goals in the stanza to battle to a 2-2 tie. LAST SEASON VS. CLARKSON The Bears dropped both games of last year’s series, the first an 11-1 defeat in Providence, and the second a 4-0 loss on the road. Junior Calla Isaac made 42 saves in the second contest.

LAST SEASON VS. ST. LAWRENCE The Saints went 2-0 last year over the Bears, doubling up Brown in game one, 6-3, and concluding the series with a 5-1 victory in Canton, N.Y. Senior Abby Niewchas and juniors Cara Najjar and Veronica Alois (PP) scored goals in the first match-up while sophomore Lauren Rippy posted 23 saves. Sophomore Kaitijane Blumberg recorded a power-play score in game two. THE SERIES VS. Lizzy Gross and Shay Maloney are both tied for second on the team in points with eight. Gross has five goals and three assists while Maloney has one goal and a squad-best seven assists. Gross has been named ECAC Rookie of the Week (Oct. 22) and Rookie of the Month (Nov. 1). The freshman group leads all classes in scoring this season, producing 42% of the Bears’ goals (10), 36% of the team’s assists (10) and 38% of Brown’s points (20). REMEMBER WHEN The Bears recorded their first tie in over two seasons on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Union, a 2-2 result. Trailing 2-0 entering the third period, sophomore Darby Melia started the comeback with her first-career goal at 14:13 and was quickly followed by freshman Tina Paolillo at 14:30 who put in the game-tying score. Brown’s previous tie came in the 2015-16 season at Harvard on Feb. 5, 2016, a 3-3 decision. NEXT UP After playing in eight consecutive ECAC contests, the Bears will return to non-conference play and host Boston University at Meehan Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. WINS OVER RANKED OPPONENTS The Bears defeated No. 9/10 Colgate on Nov. 2 for their first win over a ranked opponent since the 2005-06 season when Brown defeated No. 8/8 Clarkson, 3-1, on Feb. 18, 2006. The Bears also picked up their second victory over a ranked opponent in 2018-19 the following day, Nov. 3, with a 4-3 triumph over No. 6/6 Cornell. WEEKEND SWEEP OVER COLGATE-CORNELL The last time Brown swept both Colgate and Cornell in a weekend series was in the 2004-05 season when the Bears defeated Cornell, 4-1, on Nov. 5, 2004 and won against Colgate the following day, Nov. 6, 2-0, in Providence. GIRL POWER Brown is one of five Division I institutions that has an all-female staff.

The Bears join Princeton in the ECAC along with Boston College (WHEA), Minnesota-Duluth (WCHA) and Ohio State (WCHA). Carisa Wahlig is one of 10 Division I female head coaches and one of five in the ECAC. SIBLING RIVALRY Freshman forward Shay Maloney’s older brother, Michael Maloney, is also a freshman forward on the Brown men’s hockey team. Shay was a three-time National Development Camp invitee and played for the Chicago Young Americans while Michael spent time playing for teams in the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey League prior to Brown. HANSON NAMED NCAA STAR OF THE WEEK Junior Sena Hanson was the top star in the NCAA Stars of the Week on Nov. 6. Hanson earned the honor after recording four goals, including two game winners, and one assist Nov. 2-3. She ended the weekend with a +4 on-ice rating. HANSON AND ISAAC COLLECT ECAC WEEKLY AWARDS (NOV. 5) Juniors Sena Hanson and Calla Isaac earned weekly honors from the ECAC on Nov. 5 in an announcement by the conference. The duo helped the Bears knock off two ranked opponents with a 4-3 upset of No. 9/10 Colgate on Nov. 2 and a 4-3 victory over No. 6/6 Cornell on Nov. 3. Hanson earned ECAC Player of the Week laurels after recording the game-winning goal in each contest. She finished the weekend leading the Bears in scoring with five points on four goals and one assist. Hanson registered both the game-tying and game-winning goals against the Raiders. She followed up that performance with three points on two goals and one assist versus the Big Red. Her assist was the primary on Brown’s first goal of the game and she recorded the Bears’ second tally. Her game winner versus Cornell was an unassisted score. Isaac was named the MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week after she made 38 saves in each victory. The netminder shutout Colgate in the third period with 16 saves on Friday to allow Hanson to score the game winner in the frame. She also had a scoreless third period against Cornell with 11 stops to preserve the win.

Gross earned ECAC Rookie of the Week laurels after netting a hat trick in a 4-0 game two win at Holy Cross for her first collegiate points. Gross’ scores included a power play and unassisted goal. ECAC TOPS IN THE NATION The ECAC is one of the strongest women’s hockey leagues in the country - which includes defending NCAA Champion Clarkson - with three of its 12 teams ranked in national polls, in Clarkson (3/3), Cornell (6/6) and St. Lawrence (9/9) are ranked in both the USCHO.com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. Colgate is receiving votes in both polls while Princeton is receiving votes in the USCHO. com Poll. Brown received votes in both polls the week of Nov. 5. THE CAPTAINS Seniors Bridget Carey and Abby Niewchas will suit up as the Bears’ captains for the 2018-19 season while sophomore Abby Nearis will join the two seniors as an assistant captain. CARISA WAHLIG NAMED HEAD COACH Carisa Wahlig was named the head coach of the Brown women’s hockey program on April 27. Wahlig comes to College Hill after leading the Lake Forest College women’s program for 13 seasons, where she was the school’s all-time winningest coach with a 201-101-39 record (135-65-32 NCHA). She took over the program that was 8-9-6 and 2-22-1 in the previous season and guided the team to winning seasons every year since the 2009-10 campaign. In her time with the Foresters, Wahlig was a threetime NCHA Coach of the Year (2010, 2013 and 2014), while leading the squad to conference regular season championships in 2010 and 2014 and tournament titles in 2014 and 2015.

GROSS NAMED ECAC ROOKIE OF THE MONTH (OCT.) Freshman Lizzy Gross was named ECAC Rookie of the Month in an announcement made by the conference on Nov. 1.The rookie finished the first month of her career with four goals and three assists for seven points, leading the Bears in scoring. Gross earned ECAC Rookie of the Week laurels on Oct. 22 after she netted a hat trick in a 4-0 victory at Holy Cross on Oct. 20 for her first collegiate points. Gross added her second multi-point game against UConn on Oct. 23 with one goal and two assists, helping the Bears erase a four-goal deficit in the third period to win the contest 5-3. She added an assist at Princeton on Oct. 27 to cap off her month’s scoring. Gross also concluded October with a +/- rating of +5.

Her team reached the NCAA Quarterfinal in both 2014 and 2015, and she was a finalist for the National Division III Coach of the Year in 2015. Wahlig’s teams have finished the season ranked in the top-10 nationally in 2010 and 2014-17, while finishing in the top-5 in scoring offense from 2013-18.

ISAAC AND GROSS EARN ECAC WEEKLY HONORS (OCT. 22) Junior Calla Isaac and freshman Lizzy Gross earned weekly honors from the ECAC on Oct. 22 in an announcement from the league.

Prior to Lake Forest, Wahlig spent the 2004-05 season as the head coach of Team Illinois Under-19 program and the previous year as an assistant coach at Glenbrook High School where she helped the team claim a league championship.

Isaac was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week after she made a total of 56 saves in a series sweep against Holy Cross in the team’s opening weekend. She allowed just one goal in the two games versus the Crusaders. Isaac made 24 saves in a 3-1 game one win on Oct. 19

On the recruiting front, Wahlig has developed one Division III National Player of the Year (Laura Hurd Award in 2016) and four conference players of the year. She has guided 15 American Hockey Coaches Association West All-Americans, 53 NCHA All-Conference selections and 11 NCHA All-Freshman honorees. Academically, she has had 45 student-athletes earn NCHA Academic All-Conference laurels.

Wahlig grew up in Glenview, Illinois, and attended Glenbrook South High School. She played college hockey at the University of New Hampshire and was the team’s leading scorer all four years while

graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2000. She completed her collegiate career as the school’s all-time leader in points. Wahlig earned First Team All-American honors, was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, and helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of Division I national championships. After graduating from New Hampshire, Wahlig won a silver medal at the 2001 World Championships with the U.S. National Team and was a member of the 2002 Pre-Olympic team. She then played professionally in Switzerland, where she was the league’s leading scorer. Wahlig later joined the USA Women’s National Roller Hockey team and earned a gold medal at the 2003 World Championships. MAYOR’S CUP Brown will host the 24th installment of the Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Meehan Auditorium starting at 6:00 p.m. The series between the inter-city rivals began in 1996 with Brown coming away victorious, 4-3, on January 24 in the inaugural game. Providence has won the last four match-up including last season’s 3-1 victory at Schneider Arena. The Mayor’s Cup series is tied at 10-10-3. BEARS LAND 22 ON 2017-18 ECAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM Brown placed 22 student-athletes on the 2017-18 ECAC All-Academic Team, the ECAC Hockey conference office announced on July 10. Brown and Yale led the league with 22 honorees while Colgate (20) and St. Lawrence (19) and Harvard (19) followed.
