Approval of Instructional Consultant Services

Background: The purpose of the Instructional Consultant Services is to enrich student learning. Consultants are selected based on their qualifications regarding specific subject areas. When a consultant is selected, the consultant, company/organization must complete the required paperwork by the District to ensure that District students receive the services they require. All consultant requests must be approved by the Board of Education prior to services being rendered Discussion/Issues: Sites submit the required paperwork to Instructional Services. Work must not begin until the site receives a confirmation of Board approval from Instructional Services. If the Consultant assignment requires unsupervised contact with student(s) during the contract period, the Consultant will be required to provide Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through the District’s Human Resources Services. Fiscal Impact: There is no fiscal impact. Recommendation: Tom Kissinger, Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, recommends that the Board of Education approve the instructional consultant services for the purpose of on-site student learning support and staff development, and that authority to sign the agreements be exercised pursuant to BUSD—AR 3314, as presented.

Board Meeting Date: September 7, 2017 Purpose Date(s) Purple Communications will provide DHH translation services for our parents so they can attend parent/community events such as Back to School Night, and parent meetings. Ms. Jordan earned a BA and a teaching credential in Art from California State Northridge. She will provide elements of art and principals of design instruction to the Digital Media Pathways students with supplemental professional development for media teachers who do not have a background in fine arts and design. Elizabeth Mackey has over 17 years of visual arts museum education experience. Ms. Mackey has a Masters of Art, Art History and Museum Studies and earned her BA degree from UCLA. She currently serves as an independent museum consultant and teachers Art History for the Los Angeles Community College District. Ms. Mackey was also Content Specialists and Education Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She will provide PD for our teachers using visual art strategies to support Common Core in writing and other content areas for grades K-12 Education Through Music Los Angeles (ETMLA) provides supplemental and instrumental music instruction for disadvantaged schools to promote music and enhance students’ academic achievement. They will be providing music instruction to the students at Washington Elementary School Mrs. Kreisberg earned her BA degree from music from CSUN. Robyn has been a music teacher at Edison since 1999. She will be providing supplemental music instruction for grades TK -1, help with the holiday program and promotion assembly Ms. Chase has been performing inpro since 2003 in New York and Los Angeles. She currently is the owner and teacher of Studio LOL. She will provide 6 weeks (9 classes per week) of improve classes to grades 4 and 5. Mr. Prather earned a BA from Princeton University. He has worked extensively with the Music Center as a writer and actor. He has conducted school workshops and assemblies for over 20 years. He will be providing 10 weeks (7 classes per week) of theater classes/workshops for grades 1 and 2.

Education Through Music Los Angeles (ETMLA) provides supplemental and instrumental music instruction for disadvantaged schools to promote music and enhance students’ academic achievement. ETMLA will be providing music instruction to students in grades TK – 1st grade. Established in 1994, Box Cars and One-Eyed Jacks is a company dedicated to inspiring and motivating teachers and children through exciting, hands on Mathematical games. At McKinley, they will provide a parent night for Math. Families can learn math games that can be played at home to help with math fluency.
