Ezenwa And Mency Share CAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete Of The Year Award Wesley Rookie Elizsha Streeter And Coach Stephen Kimes Also Honored YORK, Pa. - Christopher Newport junior Enuma Ezenwa and Wesley freshman Kiona Mency were named the 2014 CAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Co-Athletes of the Year after each won two individual events and led their teams to unprecedented success at the conference championships, held Feb. 22 at CNU. Ezenwa captured top honors in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and tied for second in the high jump in leading the Captains to the team championship in its first year of CAC membership. CNU, which picked up eight victories and three second-place finishes in the 16 events, scored 161 points in the meet to outdistance second-place Mary Washington (86 pts.) and third-place Wesley (85) for the title. Mency swept top honors in the sprints (60 and 200 dashes) to become the first Wesley women’s track & field competitor to be named the CAC Athlete of the Year during either the indoor or outdoor seasons. In the 200, Mency edged classmate Elizsha Streeter for the gold medal. Streeter was picked by the CAC coaches as the 2014 CAC Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Year. Leading Wesley’s charge was Stephen Kimes, who was picked by his peers as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year for the first time in his two-year career. The Wolverines’ third-place finish was the highest in the threeyear history of the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championship. Ezenwa was the only double individual winner for CNU, but the Captains led the CAC with 10 All-CAC nods. Joining Ezenwa as first-team honorees are seniors Jessica McClelland in the mile and Jenna Elliott in the high jump, junior Danielle Crowley in the triple jump and freshmen Leah Richardson in the 400 and Logan Harrington in the 800 Crowley also took second place behind Ezenwa in the 60-meter hurdles, and CNU picked up a gold medal in the 4x400 relay and a silver medal in the distance medley relay. Mency picked up Wesley’s only gold medals and Streeter gained two of the team’s four second-team All-CAC awards. Classmates Tyesha Purnell (high jump) and Kadijah Doughty (shot put) joined Streeter on the second-team All-CAC squad. Mary Washington, Salisbury and York each picked up two first-team and three second-team All-CAC awards, and each team had an athlete earn all-conference recognition for the third-straight year. Leading the way for UMW were junior gold medalist Cheyenne Falls in the shot put and freshman Natalie Young in the 5,000-meter run. Young also finished second in the 3,000 while junior pole vaulter Claire Harrington and sophomore weight thrower Elysa Baker also earned second-team All-CAC awards. Harrington is a three-time All-CAC honoree. Senior sprinter Kara Tolson was second in the 60-meter dash while freshman Meghan McGowan won the silver medal in the high jump and the 4x400 relay team placed second. Tolson, who anchored the 4x400 relay, is a three-time All-CAC honoree. York junior Jess Miller helped the Spartans claim three medals as she won the 3,000-meter run, placed second in the 5,000 and anchored the gold medal distance medley relay.
