____________ CHURCH ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD RESOLUTION APPROVING ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF NAZARENE SAFE SYSTEM Page 1 WHEREAS the Nazarene Church International has developed the “Nazarene Safe System” for implementation by local Nazarene Churches, and WHEREAS ____________ Church of the Nazarene desires to implement such a program at ____________ Church; IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: The ____________ Church Administrative Board hereby authorizes and orders that the following policies be implemented by ____________ Church: Screening All ____________ Church staff members and volunteers working with children and/or youth must complete the following: Employment Application (employees) Ministry Application (volunteers) Provide references to be checked A volunteer must attend ____________ Church of the Nazarene regularly for six months before being eligible to serve in positions providing access to children or youth. Criminal Background Check All ____________ Church staff members and volunteers working or volunteering in children’s and/or youth activities or programming must undergo a criminal background check. Depending upon position, differing levels or intensity of background check may be required. Sexual Abuse Awareness Training All ____________ Church staff members and volunteers working with children and/or youth must complete Ministry Safe or other approved program for sexual abuse awareness training. This training will be renewed every two years.

RESOLUTION PAGE 2 Policies & Procedures A written manual will be developed that incorporates the policies and procedures for the ____________ Church Safe System. All ____________ Church staff members and volunteers working with children and/or youth must receive one (1) copy of the manual. Each staff member/volunteer will sign the last page of the manual (with a duplicate original kept on file at ____________ Church) confirming that the staff member/volunteer has read and understood the material and agrees to comply with policy requirements. Safety Committee A ____________ Church Safety Committee is hereby formed. The purpose of the Committee is to oversee implementation of the ____________ Church Safe System, check compliance with the practices/procedures set forth in this resolution, and to address any reports of suspected behavior/actions that are not in compliance with the policies and procedures of the ____________ Church Safe System, including any reports of suspected/alleged abuse. The Safety Committee will be responsible for performing an initial investigation into any reports of suspected/alleged abuse. The Safety Committee will be chaired by the senior pastor and will be comprised of the following members: senior pastor, children’s pastor, youth pastor and one member from the Administrative Board (appointed by the senior pastor). In the event ____________ does not have a designated children’s pastor and/or youth pastor, a volunteer sponsor from the respective children’s ministry and/or youth ministry will be appointed to the Safety Committee, said appointment to be made by the senior pastor. In the event a senior pastor is not in place at ____________ Church for any period of time, the Secretary of the Administrative Board will fill the senior pastor’s position on the Safety Committee until a new senior pastor is in place. The term of membership on the Safety Committee will be one year, to run concurrent with ____________ Church’s fiscal year (May 1 – April 30). The Safety Committee will report on implementation of and compliance with this policy to the Administrative Board on a semi-annual basis concurrent with ____________ Church’s fiscal year. The Safety Committee will conform with applicable laws.
