Would it be easier for you to make daily, weekly or biweekly payments rather than one large payment each month? If so, Prepay may be for you. Prepay is a pay-as-you-go plan that offers you the opportunity to pay when you want, in the amounts you want, similar to a prepaid cell phone. Instead of receiving a traditional paper bill that is generated once each month, usage is calculated daily. Prepay members never pay a late charge, and avoid paying large deposits. Prepay allows you to have the same reliable electric service you have always had, with the convenience of a self-managed program. You can set up phone and e-mail alerts for daily and low balances, pending disconnect, disconnect and account recharge information. By using the alerts, you will have time to purchase power before power is cut off. Stop by our office, or give us a call today to learn how to make Prepay work for you.

Hurricane Season is Here Are you prepared? We are entering that time of year typically known for producing strong hurricanes and storms. Here at Dixie Electric Cooperative, we have disaster plans in place, ready to face almost anything that comes our way. Are you prepared for a disaster? The National Weather Service recommends that all households have a disaster supply kit. This kit should include food, water, clothes, flashlights, batteries, blankets, pillows, a first aid kit, medicines, important documents sealed in a waterproof container or bag, and tools, just to name a few. In addition, we recommend that you have at least one standard phone, not a cordless phone, in your home to use if the power goes out. If you only use a cell phone be sure to have an alternate power source for charging, such as your car. If your power does go out, rest assured that our crews our on standby ready to restore your power as quickly as possible.

GENERATOR SAFETY During hurricane season, people often consider installing generators in their homes and businesses. While they serve a great purpose during storms, there are several things you should know to keep everyone safe. • • • • • • • • •

Never connect a generator directly to your home's wiring. Never plug an electric portable generator into a regular household outlet. Use proper electrical cords. Make sure the generator is always properly grounded. Carefully read and follow all manufacturer instructions and safety precautions. Follow local, state, and national fire and electrical codes. Never operate indoors — protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning. Never fuel a generator while it is operating. Always have a fully charged fire extinguisher nearby.

We strongly recommend that a properly licensed electrician install the equipment necessary to safely connect emergency generators.
