CROSS COUNTRY SELECTION CRITERIA Athletes trying out for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues cross country team will go through a time trial to determine whether they are ready to train with the team. All participants need to have registered with VBRS at vbrs.utoronto.ca. Minimum standard to train with the team is the equivalent of a 19 minute 5K for the women, and the equivalent of a 34:30 10K for the men. The distance that prospective team members will have to run is considerably shorter because of the early date. Women trying out for the team will run four laps of Queen's Park (3280 meters) and the cut off time will be 12:00. Men trying out for the team will run six laps of Queen's Park (4920 meters) and the cut off time will be 16:00. Some consideration will be given to atmospheric factors (rain, slippery ground, heat). Athletes who achieve the above standards will be able to begin training with the team.
