Introduction This document has been produced by the Government Office for the North West (GONW) and aims to provide an evidence base on the theme of Economic Development and Enterprise. It is one of a set of five that cover the sub-regions of the North West of England – Cheshire Sub-region, Cumbria Sub-region, Greater Manchester Sub-region, Lancashire Sub-region and Liverpool City Region. Sources This document uses public domain statistics. Information on the sources and limitations of the datasets used is included as an annex. Unless otherwise noted, Halton is included in the Liverpool City Region (in some cases data are only published with Halton in Cheshire). Administrative restructuring in 2009, saw the introduction of two new unitary authorities:Cheshire East (replacing the former Congleton*, Crewe and Nantwich* and Macclesfield* authorities and assuming some responsibilities of the former Cheshire County Council) and Cheshire West and Chester, (combining the former Chester*, Ellesmere Port & Neston* and Vale Royal* authorities and assuming some responsibilities of the former Cheshire County Council). *For comparative purposes, time series data have been retained for these administrative areas (‘old’ authorities are shown in grey text or with a green background as a reminder). Ranking and Survey Data All data has been ranked in order of performance, with 1 representing the best, using the latest figure available. For indicators that rely on survey data the confidence interval has been included with the data to show the accuracy of the sample estimate. This is particularly important to note when comparing year-on-year performance. For data values where the sample size is too small to provide an accurate estimate an asterisk (*) is shown in the confidence interval column.
