Your day’s essentially over. Work is complete, dinner’s finished, the dishes are done and your family is in bed. Now it’s your turn. After all, you’ve completed your daily tasks...or have you? We recommend taking a quick 5-minutes at the end of the day to determine how your day went. Did you accomplish everything you set out to do? If not, why not? Was it something critical? If so, move it to tomorrow’s list. However, you need to be careful when critical items are pushed more than one day. Are you avoiding them? Why? It’s important to understand why because it could be impeding the progress towards one of your long-term goals. We get it. Everyone has things that they avoid doing. We avoid having uncomfortable conversations with family members and coworkers. We ignore replying to emails from disgruntled customers. We postpone that trip to the dentist. But we know, deep down inside we know we need to do it. Remember earlier when we had you count down the days? Every day either brings you closer to your goal or leaves you further away. We don’t tell you this to make you feel guilty. You’re going to have some days when you simply won’t get everything done. That’s ok. But this is where confidence comes into play. You need to know you’ll get it done the next day. Another word of caution: This doesn’t mean doubling down the next day. If you miss a workout, don’t cram two workouts into the next day to make up for it. Though we respect the vigor, we know it’s not sustainable. Understand why you didn’t accomplish your task and get back on track. Another thing worth questioning is: What did you learn? Depending on how old you are, you’ve learned thousands of valuable lessons throughout your life. But could you easily recite them? Do you find yourself teaching others in conversations or merely listening, nodding your head as others bestow their wisdom upon you? Here’s a few questions to ask yourself for your daily assessment before you go off to bed:
Did you get your daily tasks done? Did you implement your “next steps” for the day? What did you learn? Did you recite your personal mission/mantra in the morning? At night?
