starters (6/6/1) from last year’s team that finished second in the WAC and went to the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl and 31 overall letterwinners. LAST TIME OUT RENO, Nev. (AP) - Backup quarterback Adam Dingwell threw three touchdown passes and a two-point conversion in overtime that gave San Diego State a 39-38 victory over Nevada on Saturday. Subbing for starter Ryan Katz, who went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter, Dingwell completed 14 of 23 passes for 177 yards. After Nevada (6-2, 3-1 Mountain West) went up 38-31 in overtime on a 3-yard TD pass from Cody Fajardo to Brandon Wimberly, the Aztecs needed two plays to pull to within 38-37, scoring on a 21-yard pass from Dingwell to Gavin Escobar. The Aztecs elected to go for the win and Dingwell sealed it with a pass to Rob Andrews in the corner of the end zone for the successful two-point conversion. San Diego State (5-3, 3-1) trailed 31-28 and tied it on a 35-yard field goal by Chance Marden as time expired in regulation to force overtime. Fajardo completed 29 of 40 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns for Nevada. Two of the touchdowns were to Wimberly, who finished with 10 catches for 132 yards. Fajardo also rushed for a touchdown, a 5-yard keeper that put the Wolf Pack up 17-6 with 8:43 left in the third quarter. Nevada's Stefphon Jefferson, the nation's leading rusher finished with 108 yards on 32 carries, and a 1-yard touchdown run that put Nevada up 31-21 with 7:46 left in the game. Nevada led 10-6 at halftime, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Fajardo to Aaron Bradley with 5 seconds left in the first half. THREE-DOT REVIEW Oct. 20, 2012 With the overtime loss to San Diego State, Nevada moved to 516-443-33 all-time and Hall of Fame Coach Chris Ault saw his record go to 232-105-1 … Nevada is now 6-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in its first season in the Mountain West Conference … Nevada won the toss and deferred to the second half … SDSU
received the opening kickoff and Nevada defended the north goal to start the game … Nevada opened in a double-tight end set (Sudfeld and Arendse) with Richy Turner and Brandon Wimberly starting at receiver … Chris Barker started his 48th straight game, all 48 games of his career … For the third straight week, Nevada started the same combination in the secondary as the previous week (Wooten, Johnson, Williams and Garrett) after six weeks to open the year with six different combinations … Nevada had four sacks in the game … The Wolf Pack also broke up five passes … Nevada eclipsed the 30-point mark for the eighthstraight game and the Wolf Pack scored in all four quarters and overtime … Kicker Allen Hardison connected on a 36-yarder and is now 6-of-7 on the year … San Diego State now leads the alltime series 3-2. WIMBERLY FINDS PAYDIRT Entering last week’s game against San Diego State, Nevada wide receiver Brandon Wimberly was on a scoring draught of large proportions. Wimberly had not scored a TD since the Pack’s appearance in the 2009 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 of that year. But when he caught a 3-yard TD pass on a fade route in the third quarter against San Diego State, that streak came to an end. In all, it was a span of 1,031 days between scores for Wimberly and a stretch of 83 straight receptions without a score in between. Wimberly didn’t wait long for his second score – he caught Nevada’s touchdown pass in overtime on another 3-yard pass from Fajardo. It was part of a career night for Wimberly, who had a career-high 10 catches for 132 yards – just three yards off his career high of 135 set earlier this year against Texas State. It was the most receptions by a Nevada player since Rishard Matthews had 12 in a game last year against Idaho. MORE ON WIM Senior wide receiver Brandon Wimberly missed all of the 2011 season due to injury but his senior season has gotten off to a solid start. Wimberly led Nevada against Cal in receiving with 7 catches for 83 yards. Five of the catches went for first downs – including
#BattleBorn In the midst of the Civil War, Nevada became the 36th state in the union, earning the state motto, “Battle Born.” Ten short years later in 1874, the University of Nevada was founded, becoming the state’s Land Grant institution. Shortly thereafter, in 1896, the University’s athletic program was established. While both our university and the Wolf Pack athletics program have grown dramatically, we’ve never lost sight of our roots here in Nevada. Battle Born is more than a motto – it’s really a mindset here in Northern Nevada that resonates with all
of us. There’s an independent and get-it-done type spirit about us that, in turn, leads us to take tremendous pride in our community, University and athletics program. Beginning with the start of the 2012-13 season, Wolf Pack fans will see the Battle Born mark appear as a sub-brand under the umbrella of Nevada athletics. The hashtag of #BattleBorn will be used extensively on Twitter (@NevadaWolfPack). The logo will appear on the playing fields and courts of our athletics teams and will also appear on the uniforms of a number of our teams. 3

The University of Nevada entered a new era on July 1, 2012 when it officially became of a member of the Mountain West. This is Nevada’s fourth conference affiliation of the NCAA’s Division I.

three first-down receptions that came on third-down plays. None was bigger than his last catch – a 19-yarder on third-and-9 that took Nevada to the 2-yard line, setting up Stefphon Jefferson’s game-winning score. He was among Nevada’s receiving leaders last week against USF as well, catching five balls for 55 yards. In week three against Northwestern State, Wimberly caught a career-high eight passes for 82 yards and then he led Nevada again at Hawaii with four catches for 35 yards. In week five at Texas State, Wimberly set a career high with 135 yards receiving on just six catches. He followed that up with six catches for 67 yards against Wyoming, with four of those going for first downs. After a one-catch performance against UNLV, Wimberly had the career night against SDSU last week. Wimberly has 1,823 career receiving yards, which is 15th on Nevada’s all-time list. Entering this week, Wimberly has caught at least one pass in every collegiate game of his career, a streak of 35 games that started at Notre Dame to open the 2009 season. Career Starts
JEFFERSON OVER 100; MOVES UP SINGLE-SEASON LIST For the ninth time in his career and seventh time in seven games this season, Stefphon Jefferson topped the 100-yard mark in rushing against SDSU. Jefferson carried it 32 times for 108 yards and one touchdown in the game. On the year, Jefferson now has 1,248 rushing yards on the year, which is 11th on Nevada’s single-season charts. Nevada has played just eight games and with four regular season games plus a potential bowl game, Jefferson is on pace to become Nevada’s first-ever 2,000-yard rusher. The yardage list isn’t the only single-season chart that Jefferson is moving up. With 15 rushing touchdowns on the year, Jefferson is tied for sixth so far on Nevada’s single-season list. The record is 20, held by Colin Kaepernick (2010). Jefferson is also 10th on Nevada’s single-season carries list with 251. The record is 307, held by Frank Hawkins (1980). And the junior is 10th on the school’s single-season scoring list with 16 TDs/96 points. The record is 22 TDs/132 points by Vai Taua in 2010. JEFFERSON FASTEST TO 1,000 With an 11-yard rush in the second quarter against UNLV in week seven, Wolf Pack running back Stefphon Jefferson went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He entered the game with 955 yards and by hitting the 1,000-yard mark in game seven of the season, he became the Wolf Pack’s fastest back to 1,000 yards. The previous record was eight games by Vai Taua in 2010. JEFFERSON LEADS NATION Stefphon Jefferson recorded his seventh 100-yard game of the season and ninth of his career with 108 yards against San Diego State. His average of 156.0 yards per game is still tops in the nation by a whopping 17 yards a game. Jefferson is one of just two players in the nation who has topped the 1,000-yard mark this year and his 15 rushing touchdowns are second in the country. FAJARDO TOPS 300 For the second time on his career, Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo topped the 300-yard mark in passing with 304 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-40 passing without an interception against San Diego State in week eight. The 29 completions were the most in Fajardo’s career and the most by a Nevada player since Zach Threadgill completed 30 against UTEP in 2002. The 40 attempts were also a career high. Fajardo’s previous 300-yard passing game was 313 yards in a win over Fresno State last year. 4

COMEBACK WINS With the comeback from deficits of 21-0, 28-7 and 31-14 (at halftime) against UNLV, the Wolf Pack recorded its third comeback win of the season and the 39th come-from-behind win in the Hall of Fame career of head coach Chris Ault. Nevada now has back-to-back-to-back second-half comeback victories this season. A week after coming back from a 21-20 deficit to Texas State to win, the Wolf Pack erased a 28-21 hole against Wyoming to beat the Cowboys. Nevada coach Chris Ault now has 39 come-from-behind wins in his Hall of Fame career, including five since the start of the 2011 season. Ault, of course, was the first to engineer the greatest comeback in the history of the NCAA when he guided the Pack back from a 35-point deficit against Weber State in 1991. OVERTIME Nevada lost its first overtime game since 2007 when it fell to San Diego State 3938 on Oct. 20. It was the Pack’s second overtime game of year and the first season in Nevada’s FBS history that it played two overtime games in the same year. Nevada is now 3-3 all-time in overtime games under Chris Ault and 3-4 in its FBS history. After being held scoreless at Cal, Sudfeld then started a streak of seven touchdowns in six straight games. But that streak was snapped in week eight at SDSU. Sudfeld appeared to have extended it in the first half when he caught a pass in the corner of the end zone from Cody Fajardo. But a penalty flag was thrown and the touchdown was negated. Sudfeld scored his first collegiate touchdown in unusual fashion – falling on a Cody Fajardo fumble in the end zone against USF in week two. Then came the onslaught of touchdown receptions against Northwestern State, Hawaii, Texas State (two), Wyoming and UNLV. MORE ON SUDS The Nassau County Sports Commission announced on Monday that senior tight end Zach Sudfeld was named to the 2012 John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List. Sudfeld is one of 26 tight ends to make the midseason list, alongside other standouts such as Tyler Eifert of Notre Dame, Brandon Ford of Clemson, Kyler Reed of Nebraska and Levine Toilolo of Stanford. is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2012 John Mackey winner will be presented live on December 6, 2012 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show airing at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU. DID YOU KNOW? Nevada is the only school in the nation that is averaging more than 260 yards per game in both rushing and passing. The Wolf Pack is rushing for 272.0 yards per game and throwing for 269.1 yards per game. ROAD WARRIORS With the win over UNLV, Nevada extended its road winning streak to four straight games. The streak is tied for the fifth longest in the nation. COMBS TO THE RESCUE With starting quarterback Cody Fajardo knocked out of the Wyoming game late in the second quarter, backup Devin Combs brought the Pack back for the victory. Combs, who played one season in junior college before coming to Nevada and redshirting in 2011, entered the game having never attempted a pass at the FBS level. He completed 11-of-19 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. His first career touchdown pass came with 1:18 left in the game and tied the game. Combs drove the Pack 59 yards in 17 seconds, hitting Richy Turner from 44 yards out for the score. On Nevada’s second play of overtime, Combs threw a bullet to Aaron Bradley from 24 yards out for what proved to be the game-winner. Combs also ran 11 times for 38 yards. STREAK SNAPPED Nevada entered the Wyoming game with a 14-game streak with at least one 100yard rusher but that came to an end as Nevada has just 127 rushing yards as a team and junior Stefphon Jefferson tallied just 78 yards on the ground. The 14game streak was by far the longest active streak in the nation and marked the longest of Nevada’s FBS history (1992- ). Nevada’s school record is 24 straight games from 1978 through the end of the 1980 season and featured College Football Hall of Famer Frank Hawkins. JEFFERSON THE WORKHORSE Junior running back Stefphon Jefferson was a workhorse for the Wolf Pack offense at Texas State, carrying the ball 40 times for 178 yards in Nevada’s win. The 178 yards was just over his average of 174.6 coming into the game. His 40 carries were a career-high and tied for fifth in school history (with Anthony Corley v. Pacific in 1983). The record is 45 by Chance Kretschmer against UTEP in 2001. FAJARDO ATOP NCAA’S CAREER ACCURACY LIST Entering this week, Cody Fajardo has the best career completion rate of all quarterbacks in the nation who have played in at least 15 career games and have at least 15 attempts per game. Fajardo has completed 69.39 percent of his passes in his career at Nevada. That’s 306-of-441 for 3,476 yards and 18 touchdowns against nine interceptions. His completion percentage is six-tenths above Texas Tech’s Seth Doege (68.66). Fajardo is also 16th in career passing efficiency among active QBs with a mark of 144.99. HEKKING LEADS YOUNG D-LINE One of the big questions marks going into the year was Nevada’s youth on the defensive front and whether the Pack could get to opposing quarterbacks and hold its own against the run. Eight games into the season, the young front, lead by sophomore end Brock Hekking, are providing the answers. Hekking registered his first two-sack game in week four against Hawaii and followed it up with another two-sack performance at Texas State and the sophomore is now tied for 24th in the nation in sacks. He is also third in the Mountain West with 0.88 sacks per game. Nevada as a team is 39th in the nation and third in the conference with 2.38 sacks per game. Redshirt freshman Lenny Jones notched a career-best two sacks against Wyoming and followed that with a sack against SDSU to give him four for the season and he 6

PACK PLACES 16 ON PHIL STEELE’S MIDSEASON ALL-MW TEAM Khalid Wooten was selected by Phil Steele’s College Football as the top punt returner and a first-team cornerback on the publication’s Midseason All-Mountain West team. Nevada had 10 selections – nine players with Wooten on there twice – on the first team with 16 selections overall. Five members of the Union were honored, including three on the first team in tackle Jeff Nady, guard Chris Barker and tight end Zach Sudfeld. Tackle Joel Bitonio was on the second team and center Matt Galas was named to the third team. Wide receiver Brandon Wimberly and Stefphon Jefferson were also represented on the first-team offense. Sophomore Brock Hekking joined Wooten and safety Duke Williams on the first-team defense. And kicker Allen Hardison was also selected to the first team. Joining Bitonio on the second team were quarterback Cody Fajardo and linebacker Albert Rosette. On the third team along with Galas were defensive end Lenny Jones and linebacker Jeremiah Green. COMBS STARTS, PARTS REBELS D With starter Cody Fajardo out, sophomore Devin Combs saw his first collegiate start in week seven against UNLV and the game ended much like Combs’ appearance the week before against Wyoming – with a come-from-behind victory. Combs completed 14-of-19 for 167 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He also recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career with 111 yards on 19 carries, including his first career touchdown – a 2-yarder in the fourth quarter that put Nevada up 42-31 with just over two minutes to play. After a rocky start, which included his first career pick in the second quarter, Combs settled down in the second half. He completed 9-of-11 and tossed both touchdowns in the final 30 minutes as he led Nevada back to the win. TURNER BREAKS OUT Sophomore transfer wide receiver Richy Turner made his first career start against Northwestern State and put up career highs in catches and yardage. Turner tallied

SPEAKING OF BREAKOUTS Sophomore wide receiver Aaron Bradley began to emerge near the end of the 2011 season, including a seven-catch, 136-yard, three-touchdown performance against Idaho in the final regular season game. He followed that up by leading Nevada with seven catches in the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl. But Bradley got off to a slow start to the 2012 season. He caught four passes in the opener at Call and then a total of seven through the next four games. He finally made it into the end zone at Texas State, with a 12-yard TD reception. That changed against Wyoming as Bradley had a career-high eight receptions and notched 111 yards for his second career 100-yard performance. No catch was bigger than his last one – a 24-yard strike from Devin Combs in overtime that proved to be the game-winner. JEFFERSON TIES NCAA MARK, SHATTERS SCHOOL AND CONFERENCE RECORDS Junior running back Stefphon Jefferson broke school and conference records and tied the NCAA mark for most touchdowns scored against a major college opponent with his seven touchdowns against Hawaii on Sept. 22. Jefferson, who did not play in the fourth quarter, had six touchdowns and 170 yards rushing on 31 carries and also caught three passes for 76 yards and another score in the game. His seven scores tied the NCAA record held by three players: Arnold “Showboat” Boykin, Ole Miss vs. Mississippi St., Dec. 1, 1951; Marshall Faulk, San Diego St. vs. Pacific, Sept. 14, 1991; Rashaun Woods, Oklahoma St. vs. SMU, Sept. 20, 2003. He also set the school and Mountain West conference records for most points scored in a game, most rushing touchdowns in a game and most touchdowns scored in a game. For his performance at Hawaii, Jefferson was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named the National Running Back Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. Jefferson shared the weekly Mountain West honor as he was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the league. ALL OVER THE FIELD Senior Khalid Wooten might just be Nevada’s most versatile player. The Wolf Pack’s starter at one of the cornerback positions,
he’s a force in the secondary. But you’ll see him on a number of Nevada’s special teams as well. He has served as a kickoff returner and he’s also the Wolf Pack’s primary punt return man. Wooten, who played quarterback in high school, is also the Wolf Pack’s holder on field goals and extra points. Wooten has emerged as one of the better punt returners in the country. The senior is 11th nationally in punt returns with an average of 11.64 yards per return and that average leads the Mountain West PBUs Last year, Nevada’s Isaiah Frey was second in the nation in pass breakups and led the nation in passes defended. Though Frey is off to the NFL (Chicago Bears), the Pack defense picked it up in 2012 with eight pass-breakups against Cal, including two each by DeAndre Boughton and Charles Garrett, and five more against USF. The Wolf Pack collected six more PBUs against Northwestern State and then five more at Hawaii. After getting four PBUs at Texas State, the Pack broke up seven passes against Wyoming and five at UNLV and five more vs. SDSU. So far in 2012, Nevada is averaging 5.625 pass breakups per game with its 45 PBUs through eight games. In 2011, Nevada broke up 56 passes on the year, which was an average of 4.3 PBUs per game. Nevada held opposing passers to a completion rate of just 48.3 percent, which led the nation. seven catches for 74 yards and was second on the team in both categories. He also picked up a first down on the ground with a big 27-yard end-around in the second half. After decent performances against Hawaii and Texas State, Turner had a career game in the comeback win against Wyoming. Turner matched a career high with seven catches and set a career high with 150 yards receiving, including his first career touchdown. It marked the first career 100-yard receiving game for Turner and Nevada’s second in as many games as Brandon Wimberly topped the century mark in week five at Texas State. The 150-yard game is a season high for Nevada and the most by a Pack player since Rishard Matthews had 205 yards against Utah State last November. Turner also recorded the longest reception of his career, a 71yarder from Devin Combs in the fourth quarter. Turner nearly scored on the play but was ruled to have stepped out at the 6yard line. The sophomore followed that up with a 99-yard, one-touchdown performance against UNLV.

Week Five: Allen Hardison (special teams) – Two field goals and four extra points against Texas State. Week Seven: Stefphon Jefferson (offense) – 185 yards and three touchdowns versus UNLV.
PACK VERSUS THE BCS Nevada’s win at Cal in the season opener marked the Pack’s fifth win over a Bowl Championship Series school since the inception of the BCS in 1998 and third since the start of the 2010 season. The Wolf Pack beat Washington in 2003, Northwestern in 2006, Cal in 2010 and Boston College in 2010.
CURSE REVERSED Entering the year, Nevada had not beaten Hawaii at Hawaii since 1948, a skid of seven straight losses that began in 2000 when the Pack joined the WAC and became conference mates with the Warriors. Though Nevada did get a win on the island in 2005 at the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl, the Wolf Pack never beat Hawaii on the Warriors’ home turf at Aloha Stadium in seven tries. The last three losses, in 2006, 2008 and 2010, were the most frustrating in that each came by a touchdown or loss. The 2010 loss was the only blemish on the season for Nevada that year, which finished 13-1 and No. 11 in the nation. It was sandwiched by Hawaii Bowl losses in 2009 (to SMU) and 2011 (to Southern Miss). With all of the heartbreak in paradise, rumors of a Nevada “curse” began to surface. But that was put to bed on Sept. 22 when Nevada went to Hawaii and scored a 69-24 blowout win over the Warriors. With the win, Nevada took the lead in the all-time series between the teams at 9-8. Nevada is now 4-7 all-time at Hawaii with three of the wins coming before 1948, including a 14-0 win in 1920 when Nevada became the first mainland team to travel to play Hawaii.
YOUNG PUPS Though Nevada does have last year’s WAC Freshman of the Year Cody Fajardo at the reigns of the Pistol offense, the Wolf Pack does not boast a lot of experience at the position. In fact, Fajardo was the only quarterback on the roster who had thrown a pass at the FBS level until sophomore Devin Combs broke out against Wyoming in week six. Combs played one season at the junior college level before coming to Nevada and redshirting last year. He played three snaps in Nevada’s win over Northwestern State and saw action in two fourth-quarter drives in the blowout win at Hawaii before his emergence in the comeback wins against Wyoming and UNLV. The other four quarterbacks are all freshmen: Tanner Roderick (redshirt), Hasaan Henderson, Tyler Stewart and Jacob Hollister. Nevada is one of just six schools in the country that does not have an upperclassman on its roster at the quarterback position. The others: Auburn, Indiana, Marshall, Oregon and Texas A&M. SPEAKING OF YOUTH Through four games, Nevada has seen 13 different players make their first career start. That number is among the most in the nation. This list: Most First-Time Starters In 2012 1. TEAM CAPTAINS In a vote by the players, four seniors were selected on Friday to serve as the captains for the Nevada football team during the 2012 season. From the offense, tackle Jeff Nady and tight end Zach Sudfeld were chosen. Linebackers DeAndre Boughton and Albert Rosette were selected from the defense. “I think the players did a great job with their selections this year,” head coach Chris Ault said. “What really impressed me was that they selected four guys who lead by the way that they play.” Sudfeld is a senior tight end who is returning for his sixth season of eligibility after missing nearly all of 2011 with a lower leg injury suffered in the season opener. Rosette started last season at defensive end and moved back home to the middle linebacker position this year. Boughton, an outside linebacker, is another Wolf Pack player coming off an injury as he missed all of 2011 due to a leg injury suffered in the weight room in the summer before the season. This year, Boughton was praised for his leadership in the voluntary summer workout program. Nady, a tackle from Minden, Nev., is a three-year starter who has developed into one of the best tackles in the Mountain West. Said Sudfeld of the honor: “This being my sixth year, I’ve seen five years’ worth of captains before me and knowing some of those guys and who they were, on and off the field, I am just so incredibly honored to be selected.” BOWL STREAK With last year’s appearance in the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl, the Nevada football team extended its streak of consecutive seasons 9

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Stefphon Jefferson ran for 141 yards and scored his third touchdown with 36 seconds remaining as Nevada spoiled the reopening of Memorial Stadium by beating California 31-24 on Saturday. Cody Fajardo completed 25 of 32 passes for 230 yards and added 101 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Wolf Pack (1-0), who put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory day for the Golden Bears in their first on-campus game in 21 months. Fajardo engineered the winning drive by throwing a 14-yard pass to Zach Sudfeld on third-and-4 from the Cal 38 and a 19yarder to Brandon Wimberly that set up Jefferson's winning score. Quarterback Zach Maynard returned after being benched for the first three series as punishment for missing a tutoring session earlier this summer to throw two touchdown passes for Cal (0-1). But he also lost a fumble deep in Nevada territory in the fourth quarter as the Bears lost at home to Nevada for the second time in 25 tries and first since 1903. The Wolf Pack had beaten Cal just once before winning 52-

Fajardo helped Nevada break out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and then led three second-half scoring drives to give the Wolf Pack the win. Cal appeared to seize the momentum in the third quarter when Keenan Allen answered Jefferson's second touchdown run with an elusive 39-yard score on a reverse. Khalid Wooten fumbled the ensuing kickoff, but Cal had to settle for a field goal by Vincenzo D'Amato that cut the lead to 21-17. Maynard then fumbled at the Nevada 21 at the end of a scramble early in the fourth quarter. The Bears did tie the game later in the fourth on a 13-yard TD pass to Chris Harper but could never take the lead. The day got off to a festive start as Cal held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to reopen Memorial Stadium, which underwent a $321 million seismic retrofit and renovation. The Bears returned home after playing last season's games across the bay at the San Francisco Giants home of AT&T Park.

RENO, Nev. (AP) - B.J. Daniels passed for 363 yards and three touchdowns, including a 56-yard scoring toss to Andre Davis with 38 seconds left in the game Saturday, to help South Florida come from behind to beat Nevada 32-31. Daniels also threw a 51-yard TD to Davis, who finished with 12 catches for 191 yards, and a 52-yard score to Chris Dunkley with 2:37 remaining. Lindsey Lamar added 85 yards rushing on just 8 carries for the Bulls (2-0), who trailed 21-6 in the opening quarter. Cody Fajardo passed for 271 yards and a touchdown and ran for 134 yards and two more scores, and Stefphon Jefferson ran for 135 yards for the Wolf Pack (1-1), who won their opener last week at Cal and had lost only once in their last 18 home games. Nevada, which moved this season from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West, dominated early and led 21-13 at the half but Lamar ran 35 yards for a touchdown on South Florida's opening drive of the second half to cut the lead to 21-20. After a roughing the quarterback penalty against defensive end Brock Hekking, Demetri Murray got loose for an 18-yard run to set up his own 1-yard touchdown dive and Maikon Bonani converted the extra point this time to cut it to 21-13 9:20 before the half. 19

RUSHING: Nevada-JEFFERSON, S. 31-170; HALE, Nick 5-84; FAHONOLULU (AP) -- For the first time in more than 60 years, the Nevada football team will leave Hawaii feeling some aloha. Stefphon Jefferson tied an NCAA record by scoring seven touchdowns to lead Nevada in a 69-24 win over Hawaii on Saturday. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak in Honolulu for the Wolf Pack (3-1, 1-0 Mountain West) that dated back to 1948. It was the first time since 2007 that the home team had won in the series between the two former Western Athletic Conference teams. Both schools left the WAC for the Mountain West Conference in July. "It was terrific," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "We've lost the last four times we've been here, and I'm the one who has been outspoken about it. ... We were fortunate tonight. I thought we played well on both sides of the ball." Jefferson, a junior running back, carried 31 times for 170 yards and scored on 3-, 2-, 1-, 5-, 3- and 1-yard runs and added
a 55-yard scoring reception. It was the fourth time a player had seven touchdowns in a game, the first since Oklahoma State's Rashaan Woods did it in 2003. The mark is also a new Mountain West Conference record. "I really didn't realize that at all," Ault said of Jefferson tying the NCAA record. "What can you say? He played terrific. He caught a couple screens, did a great job with it. Our offensive front did a terrific job up front for him, and Stefphon did a great job finding the holes." Nevada racked up 575 yards of offense and had 30 first downs. It was 8 of 12 on third downs and 7 of 7 in the red zone. After a three-and-out on their first drive, the Wolf Pack scored on their next five possessions to build a 34-17 halftime lead. Jefferson, who had 90 yards on 19 rushes at intermission, added a rushing touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters. 21

(AP) -- Backup quarterback Devin Combs hit Aaron Bradley with a 24-yard touchdown pass in overtime and Nevada came from behind to beat Wyoming 35-28 on Saturday. In a strange game that saw both teams lose their starting quarterbacks, the Wolf Pack tied the game in the final seconds of regulation as Combs connected with Richie Turner from 44 yards out to tie the score at 28. Nevada (5-1, 2-0 Mountain West) led 21-7 in the second quarter when starting quarterback Cody Fajardo went down with back spasms with 5:04 left to play. He did not return. Nevada coach Chris Ault praised Combs, a sophomore who finished 11 of 19 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. "It took Devin some time to find himself, but he did and I'm proud of him," Ault said. "To bring this team back in the fourth quarter and then win this thing, that was pretty special." Fajardo was 19 of 26 for 221 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. His 20-yard scoring pass to Kendall Brock put Nevada ahead 21-7 with 9:50 left in the first half. Wyoming (1-4, 0-1) came back behind quarterback Brett Smith, who was ejected with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter after

Smith's 8-yard touchdown run with 13:07 left in the game had given the Cowboys a 28-21 lead. He received his first unsportsmanlike penalty after the touchdown for taunting. The second came on the Cowboys' next drive when Smith protested a Nevada defensive holding penalty that was waved off by the officials. Wyoming coach Dave Christensen was critical of the call. "Guy's running off the field, 3 yards from the sidelines running off the field, takes his helmet off and you're going to throw a flag on him," Christensen said. "Kick him out of the game? That's unbelievable." Smith was 21 of 34 for 197 yards and three touchdowns. His replacement, Jason Thompson, was 1 of 6 for 10 yards. Nevada had the ball first in overtime, starting at the 25. After rushing for 1 yard on the first play, Combs hit Bradley cutting across the middle from 24 yards out. Wyoming then took over at the 25 and after Thompson rushed for 1 yard on the first play, he threw three consecutive incomplete passes to end the game. 23

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- RENO, Nev. San Diego State (5-3, 3-1) trailed 31-28 and tied it on a 35-
yard field goal by Chance Marden as time expired in regulation to force overtime. The Aztecs had a pair of field goals from Marden, one from 39 yards and one from 46-yards, a career-high for Marden, which put them up 6-3 with 4:22 left in the second quarter. 25
