Hamilton County, Ohio Summary Named for: Alexander Hamilton, first U.S. Secretary of Treasury Established: Proclamation - January 2, 1790 Land Area: 407.4 Square Miles County Seat: Cincinnati City Hamilton county had a population of 845,303 in 2000, and is expected to increase to 896,200 by 2015. From 2000-2001, net migration numbers revealed that more people moved out of the county than moved in. In 2000, the personal income per capita reached $34,162, while the state of Ohio averaged $27,977. 1999 poverty numbers show an overall rate of 11.9% for the county and 11% across Ohio for all persons. In 2000 more persons were employed in the Manufacturing industry, the largest payroll came from the Manufacturing sector, and the Retail trade industry had the largest number of establishments.* In 1998 Hamilton county had a net decrease in the number of businesses started. In 2001 crop cash receipts totaled $15,075,000, while livestock cash receipts totaled $1,688,000. In 1997 an average of 97 acres per farm combined for 302 farms across a total of 29,153 acres in farm use. In 2001 corn generated the largest amount of crop cash receipts while cattle produced the largest amount of livestock cash receipts.
