Soils that test low to medium are likely to show improved yield and quality if a specific nutrient is added while soils that test high to very high are not likely to respond with as large of a yield increase to a specific nutrient that is added to the soil. Managing the nutrient content of the soil is one key to optimum performance of any plant and soil testing is a required component of nutrient management plans for many farming operations.
