Students with Special Needs Students with special needs/disabilities are welcomed and will be admitted on the same academic criteria and under the same procedures as other students. If you have a disability or a special need then please contact the Department of Assistive Resourses (DART) before you apply or accept a place, to discuss any special support that you may need and to assess the suitability of the environment. It is our policy to offer a place to every suitably qualified applicant with a disability or special need wherever possible.
Open Days Our policy is to give applicants the opportunity to make a properly informed decision. Anyone offered a place will be given the chance to visit the University, usually on a specially arranged Open Day. You will have the opportunity to meet teaching staff and students who will tell you what the course is really like, and to see the University and Lincoln for yourself.

Broader Access The University is committed to a policy of providing access to higher education to all those who can benefit from it. Higher Education can be very exciting but people do not necessarily feel ready for this commitment at exactly the same stage in their development. Applications are encouraged, therefore, from individuals of all ages and with all kinds of prior experience and qualifications.
Access Courses If you lack formal qualifications and feel the need for some study prior to entering the University you can enrol on an approved Access Course. The University is a member of the Authorised Validating Agency for Access Courses in the region and can recommend one to suit you. Completion of a validated Access Course will guarantee you a place on one of the University's programmes. Access Courses are available within Lincolnshire at the University's partner colleges.

Prior Learning Experience If you are interested in any of our courses but do not have the standard entry qualifications, we may be able to help you. The University follows a national initiative known as the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS) whereby we can formally evaluate applicants' prior experience and qualifications and offset them against standard entry requirements. Details of the scheme are available from the Modular Scheme Office. Telephone: 01522 882000.
Division of Assistive Resources and Technology (DART) DART is a further resource within the University to assist in broadening access. Its prime task is to assess the personal needs of students with disabilities and recommend a package of aid which is appropriate to supporting them during their studies. Further information can be obtained from Steve Metcalfe. Telephone: 01522 882000 ext 4029.
Local Access In addition, the University is developing local arrangements to enable students to study at supported access points throughout the county, either via the Access Network, or on a University programme which has been franchised to a local college for delivery. Employing state-of-the-art communications technology to support learning an Access Network is being created which will deliver teaching and learning resources to centres and communities throughout the region. The Access Network will have Study Centres in locations throughout the whole of Lincolnshire. Details of local course availability will be published later. Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) and Degrees are also available for local study on franchised programmes at partner colleges in Lincolnshire. Please contact the University for further details.
Terms and Conditions of Accepting an Offer All students will be required as a condition of enrolment to abide by, and to submit to the procedures of, the University Regulations, as amended from time to time. A copy of the current University Regulations is available, on request, from the University. The University will use all reasonable endeavours to deliver programmes in accordance with the descriptions set out in this prospectus. However, the University does not provide education to UK undergraduates on a commercial basis. It is very largely dependent upon charitable and public funds, which the University has to manage in a way which is efficient and cost-effective, in the context of the provision of a diverse range of programmes to a large number of students. The University therefore reserves the right to make variations to the contents or methods of delivery of programmes, to discontinue programmes and to merge or combine programmes, if such action is reasonably considered to be necessary by the University. If the University discontinues any programme, it will use its reasonable endeavours to provide a suitable alternative. The University cannot accept responsibility, and expressly excludes liability, for private property lost or damaged on University premises, transfer of computer viruses to students' equipment and for how students use the University's computing and network facilities.
