Camfed tackles poverty and inequality by multiplying educational opportunities for girls, and empowering young women to become leaders of change. We focus on rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa where girls face acute disadvantage and their empowerment will have a transformative impact. Camfed is seeking an innovative and energetic fundraising and marketing specialist at a strategic moment in our development. The Head of Individual Giving will develop and implement dynamic strategies and campaigns to take public support of Camfed’s work to a new level – increasing donor retention and acquisition, enhancing the individual donor journey, and maximizing income through single and recurring donations, workplace giving, mass mailings, and other donor development activities. There is huge potential for innovation and growth in this role, which holds responsibility for Individual Giving in both the US and UK markets and will work with colleagues across Camfed’s five offices in Africa in order to engage individual supporters and fundraisers as partners in our vital work. Key Duties & Responsibilities: • Strategy: o Develop and manage the strategy for engaging the wider public and generating individual donations. o Deliver a plan for regular communications and targeted appeals and coordinate with the Communications team to maximize resources and leverage coordinated outreach. • Stewardship and Engagement: o Use a variety of tools, approaches and channels, working with dynamic content generated by colleagues in Digital Marketing and Communications, to grow the size and value of the individual supporter base and to improve donor retention and engagement. o Create and implement innovative social marketing campaigns. o Oversee design and production, manage budgets, and supervise outside vendors. o Engage in-person with Camfed current and potential donors, including through presentations at events. • Measurement and Analysis: o Direct the analysis through Camfed’s Salesforce database of income from individual donors overall as well as through targeted campaigns, to evaluate and improve performance and inform strategies.

Direct the analysis of Camfed’s digital activities (Google AdWords, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Email Marketing and Website) in order to determine their efficacy in supporting Camfed’s individual giving goals, calculate return on investment, and drive strategies and budget. Research: o Develop a detailed understanding of the motivations and interests of Camfed’s supporters through analysis and outreach to existing donors. o Stay abreast of the direct marketing market and activities of other charities to identify new market gaps and opportunities. Data Management: o Work with colleagues to ensure that the development and management of the Salesforce database is in line with the requirements of the individual giving program. Compliance: o Ensure that individual giving activities comply with all regulations (in both the US and UK markets) and good practice in relation to data protection and data security. o Be responsible for Camfed USA’s compliance with all relevant fundraising codes of conduct and best practice, including state registrations to solicit funds. o Ensure tax efficient giving is maximized throughout the program and solicited appropriately. o







The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience: • Proven fundraising experience (min 5 years) and success in donor acquisition and development • Excellent knowledge of fundraising and marketing campaign implementation and delivery • Demonstrable experience and understanding of managing donor/ customer relations • Excellent IT and fundraising / customer service database management skills • Good knowledge of tax effective giving methods • Experience managing staff, including across offices/geographic locations, and ability to work in a diverse, complex international environment • Experience managing budgets • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally • Excellent verbal and written communication and highly numerate to interpret complex data • A natural self-starter interested in new ideas and demonstrating originality in your approach • Enthusiasm and demonstrable interest in the work of Camfed • Eligible to work in the USA Compensation • Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
