Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE June 22-25, 2011 Media Choices and God’s Glory—Richard Ross, Ph.D. **SPECIAL NOTE: Beginning in July 2011, Heart Connex will discontinue its email delivery, but families will still be able to access the devotions at www.lifeway.com/heartconnex. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: At funerals, people often say positive things about the person who has died. If your funeral were held this week, one positive thing that I’m sure would be said about you is . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Colossians 3:17
Truth • Christians are to choose media with an eye toward the glory of God. Untruths • The media I choose have no affect on my life. • God’s not really worried about what I see, hear, or do. • I can watch other people do bad things and still keep myself innocent.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: A parent will lead this step. 5. Nail It Down: Say: Imagine that Christ had decided to walk the earth in our day rather than 2,000 years ago and that He decided to spend an evening in our home. Ask: In what ways might media decisions be different in our home if Christ were visibly present? Is His presence with us today any less real? 6. Pray: Cut out the four questions that can be applied to media. Place the questions on the refrigerator door and lead the family in a prayer dedicating your family’s media decisions to God. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: What places would you like to visit with your family? Make a list of the top five places you would like to go and share the list with your parents. Share with them why you chose these places.
