South Side Mission Greetings all! Thank you for picking up a copy of the monthly Hearts on Fire Bulletin! The feature this month is South Side Mission! The youth here at Northwest have been helping out at the South Side Mission here in Peoria for a long time. It has been one of the teens’ favorite things to do and it provides an opportunity for them to serve the community. In the past Paul and Patty Gaeto were in charge of what we did at South Side Mission. They did a stellar job organizing the meal and making sure our teens were serving the residents with a good attitude. Sadly the Gaetos have moved to South Carolina. We will miss them dearly. This does mean there is now an opening in what we do at South Side every month.
The Gaetos always brought the main dish that we would serve at South Side. It was often spaghetti, fried chicken, and barbeque. They would bring enough for thirty people. With them gone I need families willing to step in and bring the main course each month. The kind of food really doesn’t matter, just so long as it is enough to feed thirty people. There is money set aside in the youth budget for this, so
any expenses you have will be reimbursed by the church office. This is an easy way to get plugged into helping with the youth. If you are interested in bringing the main course, please let me know ASAP so I can put you down on the schedule.

Announcement Corner Attention teachers and parents! Once again this year we will be having another Easter celebration for the kids. This is being organized by Barb Juers. If you have questions ask her. Also teachers, please continue to review the curricu-
lum I sent out. Your ideas are essential to the process of refining the material for use. Lastly there will be a Parents Night Out on February 20th. This coincides with the Sweetheart dinner and concert. Feel free to drop
your kids off here at the building and go have a good time with your spouse. Kids must be in preschool and above, since I do not have the manpower to care for infants. By Ryan Martin

[email protected] Youth Spotlight Beth Flowers This section of the bulletin will put a different teen in the spotlight each month so the congregation will get to know them a little better.

This month’s youth spotlight goes to Beth Flowers. I dare you to show me a more intelligent person than Beth Flowers. She loves to read. A lot. From what I hear, she makes constant trips to the library in search of more books to read. She claims to have read the entire Harry Potter series in a week. A week! More important than her love of books is Beth’s love of God. As her coach in LTC I have seen that Beth knows the Bible extremely well. She understands what is going on in Scripture and knows just how important it is to her life. Beth also loves spending time with the youth group. I see Jesus in Beth.
The Months of December and January It is hard to believe that two whole months have past since the last HOF Bulletin was published. There have been a lot of things that have happened during those two months. Here are some of the highlights. December 5: Early in last month our very own Jonathan Foster was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. This is a great thing for Jonathan, and I know that he has worked very hard to reach this prestigious rank. December 20: The younger kids put on a Christmas Pageant displaying the Biblical story of Jesus’ birth. A big thank you to Jeanne Gardner for organizing and running this event. I’m sure it was a blessing to all who saw it. January 17: Two weeks ago several of the teens gathered at the Kennedy house to watch the Passion of the Christ. The discussion that followed on the effects the death of Jesus has for all of us was astounding. It was truly amazing to see the teens here in deep discussion about Christ and the power of his cross. I hope you are excited about what has been happening here at Northwest with the youth. I know I am! Ryan Martin All pictures are taken from Facebook.
