Role purpose and role dimensions: Overview of the job
‘No direct line management but may be responsible for the supervision of casual staff on occasions’ Support the Senior Park Rangers to deliver the service plans for all Country Parks, Parks, Gardens, Recreation Grounds, Open Spaces and other sites within the Companies portfolio. To Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and heritage of all sites, through assisting the Senior Rangers undertake research surveys, monitoring and implementing practical conservation work. To Open & Close sites as instructed. To Ensure all parks and open spaces are clean and well managed by collecting loose litter, emptying bins and transporting it to a central point for disposal. To inspect and carry out minor maintenance of infrastucture within parks and open spaces including all play areas. To drive a company vehicle safely on public roads and within parks and open spaces. To report any incidents of wrong doings to Senior Rangers and external partners.

To work closely with Volunteer Groups, Parks Friends Groups and external clients, to provide a community focused and customer orientated service. To act as a focal point for external agencies re arrangements for sporting fixtures, fairs and other events within parks and open spaces. To assist with projects undertaken by friends and other interest groups to improve facilities and the appearance of parks. To arrange access to Parks and Open Spaces for outside contractors.

Sole responsibility for driving vehicle (pick up truck). Responsible for carrying a wide range of small to medium power tools and machinery in back of vehicles. Responsible for the use of a range of small to medium hand tools and machinery.

To participate in any training and development activities identified relevant to your role Follow any written instructions regards special arrangements/requests and report any amendments/omissions to your Line Manager To participate in overtime for rescheduled duties due to Bank holidays, severe weather or any other unforeseen disruption. To work on Bank Holidays to suit the needs of the parks service or any other service to which you are deployed. To participate and contribute to in the delivery of excellent services to the Redbridge residents, local stakeholders and user groups. To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health and safety and welfare of yourself, employees and members of the public during all operations and that all policies and procedures relating to health and safety are complied with. To participate in training, generally including training for the use of new technology/equipment for the purpose of the post-holder’s duties and responsibilities. To contribute and to attend meetings as requested by your line manager and to participate in performance management reviews. To carry out such other duties and responsibilities compatible with the post-holder’s qualifications and experience as may be assigned by the Company.
As a first point of contact, to politely assist park users in respect of any enquiries or complaints and to demonstrate an upbeat approach to company polcies. To maintain notice boards and other signage as appropriate.

This will involve: Complying with the Data Protection Act 1998 – treating all information acquired through your employment, both formally and informally, in strict confidence and in accordance with Caldicott principles. Complying with the Code of Conduct, other practice guidelines and the rules and protocols defining employees’ access to and use of the Company/Council’s databases and systems. Any breaches could result in disciplinary measures. Maintaining client records and archive systems in accordance with departmental procedure, policy and statutory requirements.

Full driving licence category “B” essential “C1” desirable
Good knowledge of Health and Safety Relevent practical experience of working with the public in a front line service
