How to Create a Like Ad on Facebook Start by getting into Ads Manager, then click on the green ‘Create Ad’ button in the top right. Next, choose your objective. For Like Ads, we’re going to us “Engagement.”
Then title your ad (I like to be specific and include the date) and choose ‘page likes’
Make sure you’ve put a specific title (again, I like the do the ‘what’ and the date) at each step, like below. You also want to make sure your correct Facebook page is selected.
Your Targeting: You may be at a point where you have a website or a landing page that has been ‘pixeled’ and you have a bit of an existing audience. If that’s the case, I recommend starting with lookalike audiences of those existing audiences.
Key term: Lookalike Audience: Facebook finds people similar to your defined audience. A lookalike of your email list means that Facebook puts together a group of people that have similar traits/behaviors to your email list, and sends your ad to that Lookalike group. (Creating Lookalikes is an advanced technique, so if you are not at that point - don’t fret!)
I’ve chosen to target Lookalike audiences for this particular ad. If you are starting fresh, consider who your target market is in terms of: ● Gender ● Age ● Interests / other people or pages they like Facebook, as of September 2017, does not allow you to target by ‘self reported’ information, which means you cannot target by job title. Instead, you’ll want to think of other ways to hone in on where your target market hangs out. To target that way, scroll down just a bit until you get to the ‘Detailed Targeting’ section:
Under detailed targeting, you can begin to type in key people (influencers), pages, etc. that your target market likes. (For example, we’ve targeted pages/people like MailChimp, Russell Brunson, Think & Grow Rich)
**Check out the training on Audience Insights if you’d like to check Facebook’s data in making decisions about targeting! Next up, you’ll want to make sure you’ve EXCLUDED your Facebook page fans (they have already liked your page!)
Simply click the button next to ‘connections’, choose Facebook Pages, then choose ‘Exclude.’ Then, go ahead and click Continue at the bottom of the page!
I like to give my ad a specific title at each step of the process, so change the autofilled “Ad Name” to something specific. We are running an image-based ad for this particular ad, so choose ‘Single Image’ in the options below.
Next, upload the image you’d like to use for your Like Ad. Make sure you have an image that matches the image specs, which you can see on the right side of this section (you’ll also be able to see a preview of the image you’ve chosen in the next section).
In the next section, you’ll be able to see your image preview and put in the text you’d like as the ad copy.
On the right side, you’ll see your Like Ad preview. You’ll also see where it says ‘Mobile News Feed’ that you can also preview it on the desktop. On the left side, change the ‘Text’ section to be what you want the copy above your image to say in the Like Ad. I like to think about the mobile experience, so I like to keep the copy short and to the point. ●
The ‘Headline for Right Column (optional)’ section is just the text you want your ad to have in a certain placement. I keep it as our page/business name so that the ad is totally clear.
●
I leave the ‘Landing View’ as default so that when people click, they are taken right to our business page (which is what we want them to like).
●
You can ignore ‘Pixel Tracking’ if you haven’t done any pixels before, and if you have then this should just be defaulted to your main pixel.
●
You can ignore ‘Offline Tracking’ - nothing to do with a Like Ad.
Then, click confirm!
Go ahead and click continue, and you’ll be taken back out to the AD SET LEVEL of your Like Ad Campaign.
From here, you can click back to the Campaign Level to see all of the ads you are running, or you can hop out of Facebook altogether. You’re done!
