Principal’s Message In addition to this newsletter, which is the final Parent Bulletin of the term, you should have received the full Christmas College Newsletter. It is comprehensive, impressive in its range and diversity, and particularly special this term for what it represents: a term in which we, as a College, have become a complete family of the full age range, blessed by both of our Diocesan Bishops. It has been a joy today, therefore, to complete this term with Celebration Worships across the College, generating much fun and excitement but, as always with our students, closing with the reverence and prayer in keeping with our ethos. During this week of Worships, we have also been celebrating the successes of many of our students by presenting Form and College Awards for achievement, progress, effort and other contributions to College life. A list of the award winners can be found in the full newsletter. We congratulate all of those students, but also commend all of our students for their commitment to their studies and contribution to the wider life of the College this term. Many of our older students are beginning to reap the rewards of their hard work over the past years as they begin to receive their offers for university places in 2014. I know you will hold them in your prayers at what can be an anxious time, but also share in their excitement and anticipation as they plan for their futures. Our Year 7 students, by contrast, are completing their first term with us; they are an absolute delight and have become an integral part of the College quickly and happily. I hope that Year 7 parents are being kept fully informed of College life by your children, perhaps particularly learning about the size of Lower College Hall’s very special Christmas Tree and the fun of Wednesday evening’s Disco! We are looking forward to welcoming new staff into our College community in January. Mr Alan Bushnell is joining us as Director of Mathematics, Mr Chris James-Roll joins us as Head of Science, Mr Rajiv Sidhu will be joining the Geography Team, Mrs Jackie Hubbard will be joining the English Team, Mr Ian Day will be joining the Maths team as will Ms Jacquie Woodhouse, returning to us after a term at Newport Primary. As a consequence of new staff joining us, please be aware that there have been some inevitable changes to the timetables and some children will be having a new teacher. We say good-bye to just one member of staff this term. Mrs Rona Love is leaving to take up a position in a school in Spain. We thank her for all that she has done for the students of Christ the King College and wish her well in her new venture. Finally, may I wish each and every one of you a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year. On behalf of all the staff and governors, I thank you for all of your good wishes, and I very much look forward to January and all that 2014 brings. God Bless. Theme: Presents Lord Jesus may Your light shine our way, as once it guided the steps of the magi: that we too may be led into Your presence and worship You, the Child of Mary, the Word of the Father, the King of nations, the Saviour of mankind; to whom be glory for ever.

Improved text messaging system – and you can help Christ the King College save money From time to time, we send information to parents via text message to your mobile phone. Please could you download this new free app to your phone before the end of December 2013 as it will help us improve communication with parents – and save the College money. The set-up process is simple and will take no more than a couple of minutes: 1. Search for “School Gateway” in the Apple App Store/Google Play or on your phone go to www.schoolgateway.com/apple (Apple) or www.schoolgateway.com/android (Android) 2. Install the app and if you are asked then say yes to “Allow Push Notifications” 3. When you launch School Gateway for the first time, please select ‘New User’ and enter the email address and mobile telephone number you have registered with the school 4. The system will send a PIN code to your phone; please enter this PIN code and the app will be activated for you. As soon as you have got the system set-up, all of the text messages we send you will appear in the app; you will receive notifications/alerts as normal.
