Dear Church Family, This Sunday, we will host our friend E.J. Hibbler from Pine Cove. If you met E.J. last time he was here, you know two things about him. First, he really, genuinely, and emotively loves people. It’s contagious, honestly. Second, you (may) remember that he is the director of the Pine Cove Camp in the City team that comes here in June. This Monday (2/6), registration for Camp in the City will open nationwide and kiddos (along with their parents) can begin planning for a fun-filled, spiritually impacting week. That provokes a good kind of question - the kind that I have fielded many times before. Here’s the question: why do we partner with outside organizations like this? Sometimes underneath that question lies the question of whether or not we should do a particular ministry ourselves. Sometimes underneath that question is why we partner with a particular organization. Let me take both of those questions. First, we don’t do it ourselves because we can’t. It’s not really that we wouldn’t want to, but why replicate what is already being done and being done with excellence? Why reinvent the wheel? There are partnerships we have with other organizations that help us accomplish what God has called us to do. We partner with the International Mission Board, for instance, to help get the Gospel out into the world. We partner with seminaries to do theological education. We partner with Pine Cove to do an on-the-ground outreach like Camp in the City because we couldn’t pull it off to the level they can.

Second, we partner with Pine Cove in particular because they have a tremendous track record of ministry and a heart for Jesus that beats in sync with ours. Listen to their mission statement: Pine Cove exists to be used by God to transform lives of His people for His purposes and His glory. Did you catch the key word? They want to see people transformed just like we do. Our involvement with them has a track record lasting 10 years. That’s when my family first started going to their family camp. It’s a week of Sabbath for us that we enjoy every summer. When we got the invitation to participate in Camp in the City, our church jumped at the chance. Do me a favor: help spread the word to folks you know with kids in the grade school age range. It will be a terrific week for them that they will never forget. Kingdom… Trent
