Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - It is premature to call any team a winner or a loser based on the picks and trades from draft weekend. No one knows what will happen this coming season let alone five or six years down the road. Even still, it is hard not to be impressive with what the Buffalo Sabres were able to accomplish over the last weekend in June.

The Sabres have missed the playoffs the last four years and finished with the worst record in each of the last two seasons. Even in years where Buffalo experienced regular season success, they disappointed their longsuffering fans with early playoff exits. In each of their last two playoff appearances, the Sabres failed to advance passed the first round. Going further back to the 2006-07 season, Buffalo won the Presidents Trophy, but was still unable to win the Eastern Conference, and in the franchise's lone Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 1999, the Sabres lost to the Dallas Stars in six games. But don't worry Buffalo because there is a plethora of reasons to be optimistic. There are also plenty of Sabres players fantasy owners should keep an eye on this upcoming season. Here are the key additions to the Buffalo Sabres roster for the 2015-16 season:

Jack Eichel, Center In most drafts, Eichel would be the No. 1 overall pick, but with 18-year-old prodigy Connor McDavid available, Eichel slid to No. 2. The Boston University product, however, is far from a consolation prize. In his freshman season at BU, Eichel scored 26 goals and 71 points in 40 games, helping his team reach the NCAA championship game.

Eichel won the Hobey Baker Trophy, which is awarded to the college hockey player of the year. He also manned the top line on the USA world championship team, helping the USA win the bronze medal. The only question is whether Eichel will turn pro or return to school for his sophomore season. If he chooses the Sabres (it would be a surprise if he didn't), at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Eichel is ready to make an fantasy impact during his rookie season.

Ryan O'Reilly, Center Buffalo pulled the trigger on one of the biggest draft day deals this year, acquiring O'Reilly from Colorado. Still just 24 years old, O'Reilly scored 45 goals and 119 points in his last two seasons with the Avalanche. Even with Eichel on the roster, O'Reilly should be Buffalo's No. 1 center and play on the first power-play unit. That could make O'Reilly's linemates former 60-point scorer Matt Moulson and newly-acquired Evander Kane. O'Reilly will have a great chance to surpass his previous career-high of 64 points in a season.

Evander Kane, Left Winger Although he technically isn't a "new" addition as Buffalo traded for him at the deadline, it is easy to forget about Kane because he hasn't played a game yet for Buffalo. The Sabres traded for the injured 23-year-old winger after he wore out his welcome in Winnipeg. Kane's rehab is going well and will likely play on the same line as O'Reilly, which should help both players' fantasy value. Kane should also see significant minutes on the power play. If he keeps his head on straight, Kane can be a true star in the NHL and become a great fantasy asset in 201516.

Robin Lehner, Goalie The last key addition the Sabres made over the draft weekend was in net. Ottawa had a surplus of goaltenders, and Buffalo was able to work out a deal with their division rival. Like everyone on this list, Lehner is very young. He turns 24 in July, and he is the favorite to start in Buffalo. Lehner wasn't particularly impressive in Ottawa last season, going 9-12-3 with a 3.02 GAA and .905 save percentage, but the change of scenery could help. If everything falls into place for Buffalo, and the Sabres improve as they should, Lehner could be a G2 option for fantasy owners.
