KNITTING CLASSES MAGIC LOOP TOE-UP SOCKS (2 AT A TIME)—This class will teach you how to make socks using the magic loop method from the toe up. Both socks are made at the same time. You will learn the Turkish cast-on for a seamless toe, a very simple short-row heel method, and Elizabeth Zimmermann’s sewn bind off. After completing this course, you will be able to use these three skills for almost any sock design you desire. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who is proficient at knitting and purling, increasing and decreasing. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Wednesday, Nov. 9, 23, & Dec. 7, 3-5pm, $40 **NEW CLASS** MANOS MITTENS—Here you go, just in time for winter and gift-giving season. This easy mitten pattern will quickly become your favorite “go-to” mitten pattern. Jean will take the mystery out of knitting mittens and help you through the trickiest parts. In no time you’ll be knitting mittens for the entire family. The suggested yarns for this pattern are soft and squishy and you’ll never want to take them off! Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to long tail cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and work to a consistent gauge. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Monday, Nov. 7 & 14, 5:30-7:30pm, $30 **NEW KNIT-A-LONG** RAMONA CARDIGAN—Ready to be coached through that first sweater experience? If you want to try a sweater, this classic cardigan is a great place to start! It is a woman’s seamless cardigan, worked in one piece from the top down using chunky weight yarn. This is a perfect first sweater! No seams, top down and Jean to help you through it quickly! Prerequisites: For the advanced beginning knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase, decrease, consistently work to gauge and read basic knitting instructions. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Saturday, Nov. 5, 19, Dec. 3 & 17, 12noon-2pm, $40 LACE BASICS—Afraid of lace knitting? It’s time to get rid of those fears and tackle a simple project that will teach you to master lace! You will receive a lace scarf/stole pattern at class. You will learn how to read a lace chart, use a life line, as well as lace stitches— a mix of increases and decreases. This pattern can be made with lace weight up to worsted weight yarn. BEGINNING KNITTING—This two-week series is for the absolute beginner and those who need a refresher. The course will cover casting on, knit, purl, simple stitch patterns, increase, decrease, fixing simple mistakes and binding off. Our project will be a dishcloth out of cotton yarn. Teacher: Janet Gibson Tuesday, Nov. 22 & 29, 5-7pm, $30 Tuesday, Dec. 6 & 13, 1-3pm, $30 **NEW CLASS** MABEL McTAVISH MUG COZY, AN EXERCISE IN FAIR-ISLE & STEEKING—Ready to learn some fair-isle colorwork AND demystify steeking, all in one project? This is the perfect project for you. Worked in the round, this quick and practical knit will be finished in no time. Jean will guide you through the required techniques to accomplish both fair-isle and steeking and you’ll come away with an adorable cozy for your favorite coffee/tea mug. You’ll be making tons of these for that perfect little gift with a personal touch. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase, decrease, consistently work to gauge, and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Monday, Dec. 5 & 12, 10am-12noon, $30 GAUGE & BLOCKING FOR KNITTERS—Here’s a class you won’t want to miss! A combo class with a wealth of information. You will learn the importance of making a gauge swatch and how to do it efficiently and accurately. It’s a must for the perfect fitting garment. Then you’ll learn how to block your knitting so it is shaped perfectly to show off the beautiful details you worked so hard to complete. Prerequisites: For any knitter who has successfully completed a beginning knitting class, can cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Saturday, Nov. 19, 10am-12noon, $20 NEXT STEP KNITTING—Have you completed that Beginning Knitting class? Ready for the next step? This class is perfect for you! You’ve learned to cast-on, knit, purl and bind off. In this class we’ll take your knitting to the next level. You’ll learn an additional, popular cast-on, how to increase and decrease using multiple options, and how to rib. We’ll also touch on the importance of gauge, and talk about pattern reading. NO PURL KNITTING—Are you knitting a large project and dread each time you have to turn your work to purl back? Does your yarn get twisted and knotted because you are turning your project from right side to wrong side so much? These issues can all be solved by learning No-Purl Knitting. Bring some size 7, 8 or 9 straight needles and some practice yarn and will have some fun learning a new technique! You’ll be ready to knit that BIG project! Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who is proficient at knitting, and purling, and understanding patterns. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Thursday, Dec. 8, 5-7pm, $20 JACOBUS MONKEY—Are you ready for some fun? Stop in the store to see this adorable stuffed primate. You’ll want to make one once you’ve had a peek. This will be a perfect project to make for those special little ones for the holidays or birthdays. You will get assistance with increases, short rows, picking up stitches, changing colors, and using double point needles. Get your holiday shopping done early by making this adorable guy for your favorite little ones.

CROCHET CLASSES

Teacher: Lorrie Hanlon Tuesday, Nov. 1, 8, & 15, 5:30-7:30pm, $40 FROM RIGHT TO LEFT—LEARN TO KNIT CONTINENTAL— Have you always envied that person who whips through their projects and noticed that they hold the yarn in their LEFT hand instead of right? Are you ready to try it? This class is for proficient knitters who “throw” the yarn with their right hand, but want to knit faster and more ergonomically. This is a great skill for ribbed knitting as it is MUCH faster. Prerequisites: For the proficient knitter who is ready for a change! Teacher: Diane Jespersen Thursday, Nov. 10, 5-7pm, $20

MAKE IT & TAKE IT CLASSES

DIAGONAL STRIPE AFGHAN CONTINUES---If you signed up for this lovely afghan using stitches from 101 Crochet Stitch Patterns & Edgings, it continues during November and December . Prerequisites: For the intermediate crocheter who has some experience with different stitches and can read crochet pattern instructions. Teacher: Lorrie Hanlon 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 1-3pm, Nov. 2, 16, 30 & Dec. 14 1st & 3rd Thursdays 5:30-7:30pm, Nov. 3, 17, Dec. 1 & 15 BEGINNING CROCHET— Learn the basics of crochet while making a handy dishcloth in this two-week class. This is a great class for beginners and those needing a refresher. It is also perfect for the knitter who wants to learn crochet. BEADED STITCH MARKERS--Make your own beaded stitch markers! Join Lorrie for a fun crafting experience! You’ll leave with a set of 14 pretty, beaded stitch markers you can use yourself or gift to a friend who knits. No experience necessary. Teacher: Lorrie Hanlon Saturday, Nov. 5, 2-3pm, $10—includes supplies. **NEW** NEEDLE FELTED PENGUIN—Needle felting is a great fiber art allowing you to create super cute figures and ornaments in no time. Once you learn the art, you can also use it to adorn some of your knit, crochet, and woven projects as well! Come meet Katie LaPorte and make this adorable little penguin. He will look great on your Christmas tree or keep you company on your desk at work or home! Prerequisites: Students must be 10 years or older. About Our Classes To sign up for a class, please pre-register to reserve your space. Payment must be received at time of registration. Classes have a minimum of 2 students and refunds are available up to 48 hours before the first class session. In fairness to the teachers and other students who have purchased their supplies, we are unable to make refunds after that time. Supplies are needed for all classes and a supply list will be furnished when you register. The class fee covers instruction only. You will receive a 10% discount on all supplies needed for the class. We would appreciate it if you select Knitting Next Door for your supplies. Due to student and teacher allergies, please refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions to class.
