Why is it necessary to expand and renovate? Our school has always been one of St. Mark’s primary ministries and has grown to serve over 360 children this year from infants through 8th grade. Our early childhood ministry, which involved 83 children in 2005, has grown to 165 children and is virtually at full capacity. Our primary education building is 50 years old, and our middle school currently meets in five aging temporary modular buildings (t-shacks) purchased in 1998. When these t-shacks were placed into service, they were projected to last five to eight years; however, after 18 years, they are still in use and in dire need of replacement. Our sanctuary is also showing its age and is in need of some minor renovation and updating. This will ensure an inviting, positive first impression on visitors, increase the multi-functional use of the space, and incorporate newer, more efficient technology into the lighting and audio visual systems. Finally, our high school youth currently meet in a t-shack for Sunday morning Bible study and mid-week activities. Our youth are in need of more innovative, multi-functional space with greater access to restroom facilities.

What is the proposed solution to these challenges? In accordance with the Master Facility Plan approved by St. Mark voters in March 2015:

- Construct a new education building to house kindergarten through 8th grade day school students

- Renovate the church sanctuary with aesthetic improvements and updated flooring, seating, sound and lighting

- Create a multi-functional space for high school and middle school youth in the existing Ministry Building

What is the total need for this campaign? The total cost of this project is estimated to be approximately $12 million. Construction can begin when we have received financial commitments of at least $4 million, to be received over three years. The remaining construction cost will be funded with bank or institutional financing. Borrowings will be repayed in future years through normal operations (i.e. though church offerings, school tuition, and gifts). St. Mark currently has no debt outstanding.

What is the time-frame of the campaign? We plan to break ground in 2017 and begin utilizing the new education building in 2018. Sanctuary renovations will be completed in 2017 or 2018. The youth room will be completed in 2018 after the new education building is completed. Timely progress of the building project depends upon your commitment to the project and fulfilled pledges.

Who will be asked to contribute to this capital campaign? Every member of the St. Mark family (staff, faculty, Boards, parents, alumni and church members) will be given the opportunity to participate in this transformational capital campaign as we Keep the Promise and build a legacy for future generations.

Does my contribution need to be paid in 2017? No. We are asking for financial commitments to be paid over the next three years in one-time payments or incrementally at donor discretion. Commitments now will greatly assist in obtaining bank financing to enable construction to begin.

Will St. Mark accept gifts other than cash? Yes. In addition to cash, St. Mark will accept gifts of stock or other marketable securities, some real estate, royalty interests, or other assets that can be reasonably monetized. For specific questions, contact Susan DePue, [email protected] or Kelly Biar, Treasurer at [email protected].

Is my pledge legally binding? A pledge is a moral rather than legal obligation. It is hoped that you would continue payments on your pledge. Timely progress of the building project depends upon your commitment to the project and fulfilled pledges.

Are commemorative naming opportunities available? Yes. Suggested amounts are based on uniqueness or particular location in new areas of the school and not on actual cost. Naming opportunities provide the donor with the opportunity to have his or her name or the name of a loved one permanently identified with the new St. Mark facilities.

Is my contribution tax-deductible? Yes. All contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with federal law. You will receive appropriate substantiation for your contribution. Please consult with your personal tax advisor.
