(Broadcast can be heard on the Golden Bear Network at kubears.com) Golden Bears Host Undefeated Warriors in PSAC East Opener

1-1 overall 0-0 PSAC-E Lost 1

Kutztown men’s basketball begin PSAC East play by hosting East Stroudsburg, who are off to their first 5-0 start since the 2009-10 season. The Golden Bears fell short of a 2-0 start, after they were edged by visiting Wilmington in a 76-70 outcome. Tracy Peal scored 20 points is the losing effort, while Josh Johnson added 11 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, ESU won four of its first five games by 20+ points, including an 88-65 win over Mansfield. Last year, the Golden Bears lost both matchups to the Warriors. KU lost 81-62 at home and 64-60 on the road.

5-0 overall 0-0 PSAC-E Won 5

COACH ‘EM UP: Head coach Bernie Driscoll is in his 14th season as head coach of the men's basketball team at Kutztown. Through his first 13 seasons with the Golden Bears, he held a W 62-58 208-157 (.570) overall record, and a 101-80 (.558) record in the PSAC. He is the winningest coach at Goldey-Beacom (1-3) L 76-70 in Kutztown history. Under Driscoll, KU won three PSAC East titles in the past five years. v. Wilmington (2-3) 3pm v. (rv) E. Stroudsburg (5-0) PRESEASON POLL: Kutztown was picked to finish eighth, according to the PSAC Eastern 7pm v. (rv) Philadelphia (2-2) Division Preseason Poll. In previous years, Kutztown had the target on its back from the top of 7:30pm the poll, as it was picked in the top four in each of the previous four seasons. at Mansfield (1-3) 3pm v. West Chester (3-1) 7:30pm SAVVY VET: Guard Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) is the lone senior on the at Clarion (1-1) 7:30pm team. He averaged career-highs in scoring (11.7 per game) and rebounding (6.8 per game) last at Pitt-Johnstown (2-1) season. This year, expect to see the two-sport athlete (basketball, track & field) in more of a 3pm v. #14 Indiana, Pa. (3-0) “swingman” role, where he will play out in space with greater opportunities to score. 1pm v. U. of the Sciences (1-2) 3pm THE PEAL DEAL: While learning the ropes as a Kutztown freshman, forward Tracy Peal (Drexel v. Seton Hill (2-1) 3pm Hill, PA/Archbishop Carroll) still averaged 10.4 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game in v. California, Pa. (1-3) 7:30pm 2012-13. After dedciating his offseason to improve his game shape and fine tune his dribbling and at Slippery Rock (3-1) shooting, Peal will become a more focal and efficient part of the KU offense. 3pm v. Cheyney (0-3) 8pm SHARPSHOOTER: As the Golden Bears will undoubtedly be looking to establish a team-based at Millersville (1-2) 3pm rhythm early in the season, they should have some assurance from three-point land, thanks to at Lock Haven (2-1) 8pm sophomore guard/forward Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) As a freshman, he shot at Shippensburg (0-3) 3pm 34.4 percent from behind the arc. Now adjusted to D2 basketball, that percentage could improve. v. Bloomsburg (3-1) 3pm at (rv) E. Stroudsburg (5-0) YOUNG AND PLENTY: The Golden Bears begin the season with nine true freshmen and one 7:30pm redshirt freshman. Many will get minutes early and often, including that of projected starting v. Mansfield (1-3) 3pm point guard Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland). Beidelman poses potential offensive at West Chester (3-1) 8pm stability as a pass-first player. Meanwhile, guard Elijah Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) will at Cheyney (0-3) 3pm look to immediately acclamate himself on the court after redshirting last season. Inside, 6’7” v. Millersville (1-2) forward Josh Johnson (Norristown, PA/Norristown) brings great athleticism at the rim. 7:30pm v. Lock Haven (2-1) 3pm SHARE THE WEALTH: Kutztown dished out 10 or more assists in 21 or its 27 games last season. v. Shippensburg (0-3) 7:30pm Its best performance came in the November 14 game at Wilmington, with 17 team assists. The at Bloomsburg (3-1) TBD Golden Bears followed through with its second-highest scoring performance of the season PSAC First Round TBD during the 92-68 road win. Also of note, KU totalled 15 assists in a 77-64 win over Lock Haven. PSAC Quarterfinals TBD PSAC Semifinals TBD PSAC Championship

Looking in the Other Corner: the East Stroudsburg Warriors

UNBLEMISHED: For the eighth time in program history, ESU starts the season 5-0. The team last achieved this feat during the 2009-10 season, when the Warriors started a program-best 13-0. This start is tied with the 1960-61 season for the seventh-best start in school history. ESU outscored their first five opponents by a combined 24.8 points per game. GREAT EXPECTATIONS: ESU was predicted to finish second in the PSAC East, according to preseason polls. The Warriors received three first-place votes in the division. Meanwhile, junior guard Whis Grant was named to the Preseason All-PSAC East Team. He’s so far living up to the billing, averaging 15.8 points per game and shooting 41.3 percent from the field. HEY THERE, COACH: Warriors head coach Jeff Wilson is in his 12th season at the helm. With a 188-127 record, he ranks second in the program history for coaching wins. Wilson’s squad won the 2012 PSAC Championship, second in school history. Also, the Warriors peaked at #9 in the polls last season, which was the highest in school history.
