UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI
How can we break stereotypes of areas around Clifton through the familiarization of local businesses by incoming students?
TEAM 3 DFA @ UC
INITIAL IDEAS FOUR IDEAS WERE EXAMINED: ●
“Business of the Month” coupon system where local businesses are promoted by sending out coupons to students at UC for deals at said locations in order to peak interest.
●
A central bus terminal for the Bearcat Shuttles that has large monitors to display routes and times of the buses with suggestions of local businesses to go to on your ride.
●
A student rated “Best of Clifton” contest where a nominated group of students judges these restaurants and shops giving them titles such as “Best Indian Food” or “Best Place to Buy Clothes”, etc.
●
A “Local Business Tour” where prospective and incoming students are put into groups and taken on a tour around either Ludlow, McMillan and Calhoun, or Short Vine, experiencing what various local businesses have to offer.

OUR CHOSEN SOLUTION CLIFTON LOCAL BUSINESS TOUR We will be implementing a Clifton Local Business Tour in three areas during Orientation focused towards students new to the University of Cincinnati and their parents. The three areas are Ludlow, Short Vine, and McMillan. Students will learn how to get to these areas using campus shuttles throughout the tour and will stop at predetermined local businesses. At the stops the participants will be able to try out a sample food or product from the shop, as well as familiarize themselves with the area and the store itself. The tour will also be run occasionally throughout the year to encourage exploration of Clifton to students who have yet to learn about it. There may be a small fee for taking part in the tour.
