MARKETING Fun Sheet: Sales Letter Checklist

Instructions Here’s How To Use This Fun Sheet Download this PDF (you’ve probably already done that but if you’re viewing this in a web browser, let’s change it up). Make sure you have a PDF reader on your computer or device. We recommend Adobe Reader (grab it for free here). Once you’re all set with a PDF reader, click on the Fun Sheet image (right click for PC, control click for Mac) and download or save as. Already have Reader? Make sure it’s up to date by checking the version number here. Working Digitally. This Fun Sheet is editable, which means you can type your work right into the document and save your changes. BIG IMPORTANT NOTE - make sure you’ve opened your Fun Sheet in Adobe Reader before you begin to type in your work. If you want to do a fast check, type a few words into a field, hit save, close the PDF, and then reopen to check that your work has officially saved. You’re going to come up with some genius ideas and we want everything to save smoothly! Kicking it Pen to Paper. We love this method too. Just because you can save your work in the PDF doesn’t mean you have to. Studies actually show that writing out thoughts, ideas, and brainstorms long hand is significantly more powerful than typing. If this is your preferred way to go - simply use this PDF as a guide for brainstorming and dreaming in your journal if you like that pen to paper action! HEADS UP!! If you’re having trouble with your Fun Sheets, please write [email protected] marieforleo.com before you get too far along. We want you spending your time gaining insights and taking action, not fighting with technology (that’s never fun!).

MARKETING Fun Sheet: Sales Letter Checklist

As a reminder, this Fun Sheet most directly applies to business owners who sell software, information, advice, or how-to courses. If you sell physical products like jewelry, fashion, ceramics, home goods, etc., a long form sales letter is not necessary for your business. However, do review these ideas as key concepts like addressing objections, writing great product descriptions and clearly stating your terms, guarantee and refund policy are vital for every business owner! 1. Before you start writing your sales letter, make sure you complete a full Ideal Customer Avatar for this offering. You must be clear on exactly who this is for and what frustration or problem they want to solve, or deep desire/fantasy they want to experience or create. 2. Once you’re clear on who you’re serving and what they want, complete a Strategy Canvas for this offering. How is this offer different and unique from what’s out there? 3. If this offering is informational or instructional, what exact outcomes and results will your customer get? What exactly will they be able to do, have, experience, or create after your program. Remember to be specific and concrete in your language. Quantify results. 4. Write out at least 10 objections or reasons why someone would not buy. Tackle every objection head on. 5. Next, click here for Dean Jackson’s Naked Truth Sales Letter Formula. Write the structure of your sales letter in 60 minutes or less. Follow Dean’s formula to create your bare bones and get your ideas on the page! 6. Once the bare bones are done, fill in the rest and use your Ideal Customer Avatar and Strategy Canvas as well as your list of objections and answers for support. 7. Now put your sales letter through this checklist to ensure you’ve hit each key area of selling. Do you have a compelling lead (headline and opening)? Does your offer solve the problem your customer/audience has? Is your offer specific and concrete? Will your prospect understand exactly what they get and how to use it or how it will benefit them? Did you include relevant dates, product descriptions, photos or image examples so there is no question about what they are getting? Can you authentically make your offer urgent or scarce? Have you created a deadline or limited the amount of products sold, if that applies?

MARKETING Fun Sheet: Sales Letter Checklist

Did you include social proof in the forms of testimonials, case studies or reviews from customers? Did you tackle objections head on? Have you included an FAQ section? Do you tell the prospect who this offer is for and who it’s not for? In other words, who would benefit from this offer, and who should not purchase it (most offers are not appropriate for everyone in a given market)? Are you including any bonuses? You don’t have to, but adding additional, real value to any offer helps conversions. Remember, this is about WOWing your customers! Did you articulate the value properly? Remember to use the Mattress Method and be explicit about the cost/value proposition of this offer. Explain in concrete, real terms how much value they are receiving. Does your offer have a guarantee? Are the terms of service and participation crystal clear? Do you have a clear call to action? Tell them exactly how to buy now! Did you tell them exactly what will happen after they click the “buy now” or “register” button? Online customers want to feel safe and know what to expect. Is it clear how to get a hold of your company if the customer has problems making their purchase or after their purchase?
