Administrator’s Report

Report:

Jeff gave his report in person and highlighted the following: • • • •

• • • Discussion:

Burnsville tournament went well, but it was not as overall competitive as the Blaine and Fargo tournaments, and the multiple field locations was an issue for parents. BYS needs corner flags for the Bemidji 6v6 tournament, $65/set for flags and poles or $10/set for flags only. Player evaluations likely scheduled for July 31 to August 3. The evaluations will reflect the birth year age group change. A U11 Bemidji boy was in a fight at the Burnsville tournament. He received a red card and a two game suspension per US Soccer rules (1 game suspension for the red card and an additional game for fighting). This is not acceptable Bemidji player conduct. BYS will carry out the suspension next season if needed. Jeff talked with players and coaches about the appropriate conduct. Next season players and parents will be required to sign a Player & Parent Code of Conduct. Late Summer Rec will go through August, dependent on available coaches. Progress being made on a Rec Plus League that would play regionally. BYS needs to put out a commercial, send an e-mail blast for it, and advertise it. Jeff and Jen added that getting a BYS credit card is still in progress.

BYS board members and guests discussed conducting a survey for parents to evaluate the tournaments. Consensus was that this is a good idea, but questions need to be determined. Mary Ellen volunteered to help if BYS can provide questions.

Meeting Minutes

BYS Board

Motion:

Motion to accept the Administrator’s Report by Dan, Seconded by Jen. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Topic:

Annual Budget

Discussion:

Jen and Jeff reported that they still need to verify the budget, but that it will be close to last year.

Topic:

Alumni Game & 6v6

Discussion:

Selena, Mary Ellen, and Rick were there to discuss details for adding more activities and food options to the BHS Alumni Game on August 20 and the Bemidji 6v6 Tournament on July 16 and 17. Bemidji 6v6 Tournament: Jeff noted that Bemidji High School parents will volunteer to run concessions at the tournament. Food is taken care of, and Selena will help pick it up. Revenue from concessions goes to Bemidji High School Soccer, and revenue from tournament fees goes to BYS. Jeff also reported that he is expecting more teams, so organizers will add more fields this year. BHS Alumni Game: Board and guest discussion reached consensus that the goal for the Alumni Game is to generate more community involvement in soccer – any fundraising revenue is a bonus. Selena will work on food options and investigate getting food from Harmony Co-op or pursuing “Taco in a Bag” to have something other than standard hot dog fare. Plans are also getting in place to have coolers/freezers with ice cream or similar desserts. Selena will put together some numbers and request a budget for the event via Jeff. Dan asked about getting a food permit to meet local requirements, but consensus from rest of board and guests was that BYS has not done this in the past so it is not needed. The group also discussed adding some game activities. These will likely include a Fastest Kick game using a radar gun, Soccer Tennis, a Water Tent, and maybe one more game. Consensus was to start small and limit activities so there is not too much. Games will happen at the same time as the Alumni Game. Also discussed including BSU for future Alumni Games to connect soccer in the community and possibly re-label the event with a new name to emphasize that it is a day to celebrate soccer in Bemidji.

Motion:

Dan moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:53 p.m. Jason seconded the motion; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
