April 17,2019 A Note from Pastor Rick > . . . The season of Lent is drawing to a close. Holy Week is upon us. Are we as ready as can be to greet the risen Jesus Christ on Easter morning? That question can only be answered through the individual responses of many people. There is still time to get ready, and that is good news indeed. We will celebrate our annual Maundy Thursday worship together on Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary. This service helps us to relive the experience of Jesus and the disciples in the Upper Room. We will sing, pray and celebrate in Holy Communion and hand-washing. This is a moving service and one you can easily invite a friend or neighbor to attend.

On Friday, April 19th, we come together at 7:00 PM in our sanctuary to share in our annual Good Friday Service of Darkness Tenebrae service. This is a somber service of remembrance of the darkness that came upon the world when Jesus’ body was placed in a borrowed tomb. Our last act of worship on Friday is to lock the doors of the sanctuary, and leaving in silence.

Easter morning begins with our Sunrise Service in the Welcome Center at 7:00 AM, a service that features our Spirit Moves ministry. After the service, you can enter into the Fellowship Hall and share in our United Methodist Men’s annual Easter morning pancake breakfast. Easter services continue at 8:45 and 10:45 AM. It will be a day to celebrate!

We set two special goals for Easter morning. First, we are praying for, and encouraging everyone to be as generous as possible in the Easter morning offering this Sunday. We hope that our Easter offering will set a record, and all gifts will be so appreciated. Please continue to pray about this, and please be as generous as you can possibly be. Second, we are asking every family in attendance to bring “at least” one package of cookies to be placed on our “Serve the World 2.0” mission table located outside the doors to the sanctuary on the Welcome Center landing. My prayer and hope is that the cookies we bring will completely cover the table, and probably have to be stacked on the floor as well. Our plan is to take all the cookies donated to the employees of the Crowley ISD Administration Building and Crowley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Monday, April 29th.

Again, please be as generous as you can. Our generosity blessed the lives of others far more than realize! - Pastor Rick >

Attendance & Offering - Week ending 4/14/19 Sunday Worship (4/14): 120 Received for the Operating Budget: $2,211.00 Total Offering Received: $4,192.57 “Thank You!” to everyone who contributed to our church operating budget this past week. Our regular weekly operating budget need is $6,270 per week in offerings and gifts to fully fund 100% of our weekly Operating Budget and all Connectional Mission Giving.

On-Line Giving . . . Do you prefer to donate to the church on-line? If so, you can go to our webpage (www.crowleyumc.com) and click the Donate button, or you can click HERE to go directly to our on-line giving portal.

Serve the World – 2.0: Being God’s Hands and Feet APRIL 2019 We are asking everyone who attends services on Easter morning to bring at least one package of cookies to place on our Mission Table in the Welcome Center! The recipients in April will be the employees at the Crowley ISD Administration Offices and the Crowley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. We will deliver all the goodies donated on Monday, April 29 th.

Music Notes . . . What a wonderful Sunday we had! I’m so proud of the Chancel Choir and all of their hard work! The choir put in hours and hours of extra rehearsal and it showed! From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you to all who joined us for the cantata…singers, readers, pianist…it was a glorious way to usher us into this final week of Lent. – Jo Heyduck

The WIG Meeting originally scheduled for April 28 has been rescheduled to Sunday, May 19 immediately following the 10:45 service.

Thursday, April 18 – Maundy Thursday Holy Communion & Handwashing - 7:00 PM Friday, April 19 – Good Friday Service of Darkness - 7:00 PM

Easter Offering 2019 . . . It is our hope to receive a record offering supporting the budget of our church on Easter Sunday, April 21st. Everyone is encouraged to begin praying today about the amount the Lord would ask you to give. Our Easter offering goal is $10,000.

Preschool News . . . The preschool Easter parties and egg hunts were part of our fun this week. Our teachers have done an amazing job of sharing the story of Easter with our young students. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to share the stories of the Bible and the miracle of Easter with the children! We are able to do so as one of the spiritual ministries of the congregation and we appreciate the congregation's prayers and support. The Board of Trustees has approved some updates to the preschool building. The preschool will be using funds raised during the 2018-19, 2017-18 and 2016-17 school years to repair the hallway ceiling, paint the hallway ceiling and walls, update all interior doors in the building and replace the exterior doors at the South entrance. We would also like to replace the carpet in three classrooms and replace it with laminate flooring. Volunteers are needed to help us pull up the carpet. Please email Melissa Trigg ([email protected]) if you can help with preparation for the renovations. Happy Easter to all!

Time for Day Camp Registrations . . . Crowley United Methodist Preschool is once again offering Summer Day Camp! It will be held June 11-13, 18-20 & 25-27 and July 9-11, 16-18 & 23-25 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Camp is for children between three years of age (must be potty trained) and 3rd grade and will include loads of fun activities! Cost is $75/week/child. Email [email protected] for more info.

Mark Your Calendars for June 1st, 6:00 to 8:00 PM for our 50’s Bash & Basket Auction. This will be a fabulously fun evening of fellowship and fundraising to supplement our 2018 Lord’s Acre fundraising due to the “great flood of 2018”. It’s not too early to sign up to create a basket, buy your dinner tickets and plan for the contests! Need basket ideas? Just ask, then get your family, friends or group together and start building that special gift basket for auction. Baskets of various sizes are needed…small or large. All are welcome. The 50’s Bash committee would like to know if anyone has a connection to persons with “classic cars” who we could contact to have a few classic cars in our parking lot before and/or during the event. Also, if anyone has 50’s memorabilia who would like to share those items as part of the décor and help create the ambiance, please contact Mandy Lofquist or Liz Mang with your information.

The Current Lord’s Acre Committee list is below. If you would like to help, please let us know! Our next Lord’s Acre Committee meeting will be at 7:00 PM on April 30th. We hope to have all committees staffed by then!
