MORNING PRAYER— Pre-service Prayers (Hymnal pp. 4; 102-109; 118; 170) Please be aware that due to our organist’s absence today our hymn accompaniment is recorded. Each hymn begins with a full stanza introduction before the first stanza Hymn #193 Christ the Lord is Risen Today At the final stanza, the congregation turns facing the processional cross

P: In the Name of the Father and of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. P: Almighty and most merciful Father, C: I have erred and strayed from Your ways like a lost sheep. I have followed the devices and desires of my heart. I have sinned against Your holy Law. I have done those things which I should not have done, and I have not done those things I should have done. O Lord, have mercy on me. Spare me and restore me, according to the promises You declared to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. For His sake, grant that I may live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of Your holy Name. Amen. P: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. PSALMODY P: O Lord, open my lips, C: and my mouth shall declare Your praise. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. [Psalm 51.15] Alleluia, alleluia. P: The Lord is risen indeed. C: Oh, come, let us worship Him. P: Oh, come, let us sing to the Lord;

C: let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation. P: Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; C: Let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise. P: For the Lord is a great God and a great king above all gods. C: In His hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are His also. P: The sea is His, for He made it; C: and His hands formed the dry land. P: Oh, come, let us worship and bow down; C: Let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. P: For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen. P: The Lord is risen indeed. C: Oh, come, let us worship Him. Psalm 98: P: Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! C: His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. P: The LORD has made known his salvation; C: he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. P: He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. C: All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. P: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; C: break forth into joyous song and sing praises! P: Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! C: With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD! P: Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; C: the world and those who dwell in it! P: Let the rivers clap their hands; C: let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. P: He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; C: as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Hymn: #225 Come, Holy Spirit, Come THE WORD—INSTRUCTION First Reading— James 1. 16-21 Stop deceiving yourselves, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good Gift and

every perfect Gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 Of His own will He gave birth to us by the word of truth, so that we are a kind of firstfruits of His creation. 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Second Reading— John 16. 5-15 5 “But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” P: In many and various ways, God spoke to His people of old by the prophets. C: But now in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son. [Hb. 1. 1,2] Sermon—John 16. 5-12 The Holy Spirit’s Gracious Work Of Saving Sinners 1. Grounded on Jesus’ work 2. Consists in conviction [Silence for meditation] The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life  everlasting. Amen. Offering Stewardship Thought—James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” The thought James captures here is repeated over and over again in the Bible. Everything good we have is from God. He loves to give. He loves to bless. He loves to show us generosity time and again – and He desires that we grow into His image, and reflect His love. That is why God wants us to give to the ministry of His Church. God can do anything He wants to without our help. But He commands us to give so that we will grow in our imitation of His own generosity. Offering Prayer after offerings are received: P: Receive, O God, our bodies and souls and all our talents, together with the offerings we bring before You because You have purchased us to be Your own, that we may live unto You. C: Amen.

THE PRAYERS LITANY OF THE RESURRECTION: P: Lord, have mercy upon us. C: Christ, have mercy. P: Lord, have mercy upon us. O Christ, hear us. C: O Christ, graciously hear us. P: Jesus, our Passover Lamb, who was offered for us and has taken away the sins of the world. C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who by Your death has destroyed death and by Your rising to life again has restored to us everlasting life, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who rose very early in the morning on the first of the week, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who appeared first to Mary Magdalene, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who allowed Yourself to be seen by the women and to be worshipped by them, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who appeared to the Eleven, saying, “Peace be unto you.” C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who breathed upon Your apostles that they might receive the Holy Spirit, C: Have mercy upon us.

P: Jesus, who confirmed the faith of Thomas by bidding him touch Your hands and Your side, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who showed Yourself again to Your disciples at the Sea of Tiberius, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who conversed with Your disciples upon a mountain in Galilee, C: Have mercy upon us. P: Jesus, who spoke to Your apostles of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God, C: Have mercy upon us. P: By Your glorious resurrection; by Your victory over death; by the glorious majesty of Your risen body; C: Good Lord, deliver us. P: We poor sinners beseech You, C: to hear us, O Lord Jesus. P: That we may walk in love, even as You walked in love; that we may set our affections on things above, not on things on earth; that we may dwell with You forever in the new heaven and earth, in the Holy City, the New Jerusalem: C: Grant us, good Lord. P: O Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world, C: Have mercy upon us. P: O Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world, C: Grant us Your peace. P: O Jesus, hear us. C: Jesus, graciously hear us. P: O God, You make us glad by the yearly Festival of the Resurrection. Mercifully grant that we who are now celebrating these joyous holy days on earth may attain hereafter to eternal joys in heaven; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. O God, You alone make the minds of the faithful to be one will. Cause Your people to love what You command and to desire what You promise, that among the manifold changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, You forgive all our iniquities and heal all our diseases, and have proclaimed Your name to be the Lord who heals us and You have sent Your well-beloved Son to bear our sicknesses. Look in mercy upon Your unworthy servants, pardon and forgive us our transgressions, and of Your lovingkindness remove the plague of sickness which You have allowed to come upon them. This we ask according to Your will, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Almighty God and gracious Father, in Your mercy look on those whose increasing years bring them weakness, anxiety, distress, or loneliness. Grant that they may always know care and respect, concern and understanding. Grant them willing hearts to accept help and, as their

strength wanes, increase their faith with the constant assurance of Your love through Jesus Christ, their Savior. Amen Merciful God, we humbly implore You to cast the bright beams of Your light upon Your Church that we, being instructed by the doctrine of the blessed apostles, may walk in the light of Your truth and finally attain to the light of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen Remember, O Lord, all who in heathen lands are under instruction for Holy Baptism. Have mercy upon them and confirm them in the faith. Remove all the remains of idolatry and superstition from their hearts, that being devoted to Your law, Your precepts, Your fear, Your truths, and Your commandments, they may grow to a firm knowledge of the Word in which they have been instructed. And may they be found worthy to become a dwelling of the Holy Spirit, by the washing of regeneration for the forgiveness of their sins, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank You, that of Your boundless grace, for the sake of Your Son, You have given us the Holy Gospel, and have instituted the holy Sacraments, that through them we may have comfort and forgiveness of sin. We beseech You, grant us Your Holy Spirit, that we may believe Your Word; and through the holy Sacraments day by day establish our faith, until we at last obtain salvation, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. C: Amen P: Taught by our Lord and trusting His promises, we are bold to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; for Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. PASCHAL BLESSING P: Let us bless the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. [Psalm 103.1] P: All of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ. C: Alleluia! [Gal 3.27] P: Now on the first of the Sabbaths, very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the

dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' " [Lk 24. 1-7] P: Let us pray: O God, for our redemption You gave Your only Son to suffer death on the cross, and by His glorious resurrection You delivered us from the power of death. Make us die every day to sin so that we may rise to live with Christ forever; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen P: The Lord almighty, the Father, the () Son, and the Holy Spirit, bless you and direct your days and deeds in His peace. C: Amen. Hymn #196 I Am Content! WELCOME TO FAITH! GOD’S HOUSE, YOUR HOME! To the friends who know us and to the visitors who are with us for the first time, the pastor and members of Faith Lutheran extend you a sincere welcome. We pray that your faith will be strengthened by your worship with us. We invite our guests to sign the guest book in the entry way and worship with us again. PRAYER OF THE COMMUNICANTS: O Lord, You ordained mysteries in our holy religion to exercise our faith and raise our profoundest adorations of Your divine majesty. You did not ordain them to encourage a bold arrogance in us to search into the depths of Your incomprehensible nature. Your presence in the elements of the bread and wine, by the influences of Your Spirit, and by the application of Your merits to the soul of the truly penitent, shall be sufficient for me to adore Your love, to revere Your Sacrament, and to come to Your table. O blessed Jesus, I beg the assistance of Your grace, and a happy communion between You and my soul. Amen. [Johann Gerhard, 1582-1637]
