This term the group will be investigating and looking at computing devices . In particular the advantages and disadvantages, as well as setting up devices for users. We will be covering peripherals and how they connect to devices. We will also be investigating networks and how they work, security and GPS tracking will also be included.

Home learning opportunities Homework will be given on a weekly basis and the quantity will depend upon the level that pupils are working at. Revision work will also be completed during exam periods. Dates of these will be provided in advance.

PE This half term will be focussed upon ball games, skills and team building. Some pupils will also be completing the Rookie Lifeguard course on Mondays.

Practical arrangements PE is on a Tuesday afternoon– weather appropriate PE kit and shower kit are needed each week. Those completing the Rookie lifeguard course will complete this every Monday and will need their swimming and shower kits. More information will follow.

Science This term the students will be revisiting concepts related to the physics aspects of their AQA GCSE Science Award. This includes and analysis of how energy is transferred into different forms throughout our daily lives. An important aspect of the course is to analyse energy efficiency and to gain a better understanding of how we can preserve energy. This will include experiments to analyse good insulators and conductors and the importance of choosing suitable materials to improve energy efficiency. The students will be looking at how energy can be preserved in the home and how the cost of energy is calculated.

Home to school contact and communication Contact can be made through Home School Diaries or I can be contacted through the school phone number or by email which is often the fastest option. Phone calls will not be put through to staff during lesson time but messages will be passed on and staff will call you back at the earliest convenience. Emails will be answered with 2 working days unless it is an emergency. Please email me on [email protected] I will then pass on information to the relevant staff.

Humanities This term the students will be completing a range of tasks to demonstrate their knowledge of famous historical events and people of Great Britain. These tasks will require the students to complete their own research about events and people they are interested in. The students will develop their knowledge of the Britain’s past and relate these to values that we still feel are important throughout our daily lives.

Autumn Term Curriculum

Maths Maths this term we will be working on the use of Probability, and how we can find the probability of events and experiments, working with decimals, percentages and fractions and translating between them. We will also be focussing upon problem solving and mathematical reasoning, and will spend time working on our exam skills. Homework will be given once a week, and personal study will be expected when we are completing exams. English In this term students will learn how to write in a variety of styles for different audiences and purposes. They will learn the skills needed to write accurately and to make decisions about the structure and format of a written response. They will be able to check text for errors and then revise work accordingly, producing a final legible draft. The students will be exploring a range of different non-fiction texts in order to analyse how they use presentational techniques to target a specific audience. They will begin to understand that how presentational techniques can sometimes be manipulative in order to suit a specific purpose. This will help the students to be more critical readers by examining what they read throughout their daily lives.
