overview levels of league play membership

OVERVIEW The Florida Power League is a series of 1- and 2-day tournaments that clubs may use as a winter standalone season, a tune-up for their top qualifier/travel squads, a pre-season schedule for high school boys, development of younger or less experienced clubs, or just shaking off the rust in general. FPL is all about providing appropriate, affordable competition between well-matched teams, and doing so early enough in the club season that teams may still play in their preferred Qualifiers and other convention center events if they compete in / aspire to that level. We are part of the JVA Alliance.

LEVELS OF LEAGUE PLAY Divisions are offered for Girls and Boys teams as indicated below. Whether we have separate Premier and Super Divisions, or combine them into one, “tiered” group will depend upon the number of teams registered for this year’s League. Either way, teams are assured of appropriately matched competition. 

PREMIER (Open/Elite): Generally, these teams are among the very best at all levels of play.

SUPER (Club/Classic): These teams are competitive, but not necessarily their club’s #1 team within that age group. A good club without a true “elite” team often registers the majority of their teams here, and top echelon clubs may have multiple teams competing at this level as well.

DEVO (newer, developmental): These teams do not typically play in Qualifiers or other National events. Ideal for new players & coaches, homeschool groups, or teams that train together less frequently due to driving distance, school sports, etc. “Sandbagging” in this Division is not cool.

MEMBERSHIP Membership is open to all youth teams, regardless of whether they are affiliated with AAU, homeschool, JVA, USAV, YMCA, or are currently unaffiliated. There are two levels of membership: 

FULL member teams commit to playing on all FPL dates. Benefits include hosting privileges, FPL “partnership perks”, and automatic League Championship Tournament qualification. Additionally, FULL teams competing in the League Championship Tournament in an upper Division (Premier or Super) having 12 or more FULL teams participating - and who win their Division at that event - will receive $800.00 upon confirmation of that team’s paid entry into a 2018 National Championship (AAU, HomeSchool, JEEP, JVA, Maccabi Games, or USAV).

GUEST teams are those who register for individual events. All are welcome. Entry into any particular Division and event will be on a space available basis. Like our FULL member teams, GUEST teams will experience the same great competition with flexible, early season dates at reasonable cost. GUEST teams are not eligible for National entry fee compensation.
