Message from Mr Parker… Welcome back, I hope you all had a nice, relaxing break over the festive period although I’m not sure how likely that is! It is always an exciting time of year with lots happening and it is difficult to know what day of the week it actually is! The children were excited to be back in school last week and keen to tell everyone about what they had done during the holiday. We are all looking forward to a busy term full of learning opportunities as the children build on all their hard work from the previous term. Thank you to all the people who attended the performances at Pudsey Parish Church, especially the people who volunteered to walk up with the children. It was lovely weather for the morning walk but the afternoon volunteers definitely drew the short straw as we got soaked! We hope you all enjoyed the performances of the children and that seeing how excited they all were got you in the festive mood. The nursery nativity at the end of last term was excellent and the nursery team were amazed at how well the children performed. It was very well attended and there were some lovely comments from a number of proud parents and grandparents after the performance. The staff in nursery would also like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the term. Miss Foster as PE co-ordinator is trying to arrange some after school clubs for a range of year groups. These will run for half a term before changing to a different year group. It is very difficult to manage this because of the number of pupils in our school and the limited space we have, especially at this time of year when we can’t rely on the weather (although who knows if the summer will be any better!). Therefore it is strictly first come first served and we only have a set number of places. Miss Foster will be keeping a record of people attending and those that missed out, so that next time it is offered we will be able to target the children who unfortunately didn’t get a place previously. On Thursday last week Year 6 went to Chester Zoo, all the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were so engaged they didn’t even notice how cold and wet it was! Having spoken to a number of the children there were a range of favourite animals with some interesting reasons why! It has been amazing how much the children learnt during the trip and they will now be using this to produce some excellent writing. All the staff that went on the trip were very proud of the children as their behaviour was excellent. A number of the general public commented how thoughtful the children were as they let younger children through to see the animals and explained what they knew about the species to them. Finally… the house points winners for the whole of last term were the purple team so on the final day of term they all were able to design and make their own decoration. The Spring term scores started last week so any team can win it and we will reveal the prize towards the end of the term.
