Reception Newsletter Spring 2018 Dear Parents, A Happy New Year to everyone and welcome to the Spring Term. The children have been sharing news and telling us all about their new toys. Over the next few weeks we will be covering a lot in all areas of the curriculum and below are a few of the things we will be learning about in each area. PSED We will continue to encourage children to become independent learners. We will discuss how to take account of what others say, how to explain your own knowledge and understanding and ask questions. As part of becoming an independent learner we will focus on dressing and undressing for themselves. Please can you support us with this at home. Communication and Language This is an area we will be working constantly on throughout the term. We will be looking at asking and answering questions and listening to others. We are going to introduce a new language learning tool to encourage the acquisition of new vocabulary. Physical We will be continuing our dance sessions with Mrs Cooke. This term we will be practising a dance of a traditional tale told using gestures. Mrs Quinn is looking forward to watching the results. Hopefully when the weather improves we will be able to resume our fifteen minute run outside. Literacy The children will be writing labels, captions, sentences and their own stories by applying the knowledge they have been gaining in their daily phonic sessions. We will continue to sound out and blend words together and they will also learn to read words by sight.

We are continuing with the reading scheme and thank parents for their support reading daily with their children at home, it really makes such a difference. Mathematics In mathematics will be looking at adding and subtracting and using these new skills to solve problems. We will start to look at time, weight and measure and also patterns. Alongside these we will be looking at planting and growing, drawing and modelling, texture, storytelling through role play and continuing our journey of faith in R.E.
