2013 MEN’S SOCCER GAME DAY PROGRAM USF vs. No. 10 Cal Thursday, September 5 • 7:00 p.m.
Dons with golden opportunity against No. 10 Cal
2013 SCHEDULE
USF aims to carry strong weekend performance into match against Bears GAME NOTES
AUGUST 30 FRI. SEPTEMBER 1 SUN. 5 THU.
Junior midfielder Danny Kirkland
TODAY: It’s not often you get to play a team in the first week of September that already has two wins against top-5 teams. This is the test that awaits USF against Cal. The Golden Bears have two wins over top-5 opponents (Maryland, Georgetown) in their first weekend of action. The Dons picked up two wins of their own and scored four goals in the two matches. Four different players scored goals for USF, including freshman David Garrett who scored his first in the first three minutes of action on Friday against LIU Brooklyn. The Dons also have a battle at goalie brewing. Connor Gaal and Chase Hauser each started a match over the weekend and each recorded a shutout. Head Coach Erik Visser has confidence in both goalies and wants to see what the two show on the pitch. USF is 1-8-1 in its last 10 meetings with Cal and has not beaten the Bears since 2007 (2-1 win at Negoesco Stadium). NEXT: Sunday vs. San Jose State, 7 p.m.

Cal had quite the eventful weekend. They defeated No. 2 Maryland on a golden goal and beat No. 3 Georgetown 2-0. Cal was not ranked in the NCAA preseason poll but are sure to be ranked this week.
The senior midfielder had a great opening weekend. He collected three points in the Dons’ two victories, including his first goal of the season on a penalty kick against LIU Brooklyn.
