Skokie Lagoons Skokie River (North Branch of the Chicago River) Address or Nearest Intersection: Willow Rd. and Forestway Dr., Winnetka, IL Directions: Park in any pull-off along Forestway Dr. north of Willow Rd. Access to water will be straight across the lawn from any of the pull-offs. Owner: Forest Preserves of Cook County (permit required) Habitat Description: Forested and wetland site where the river pools into lagoons. Good diversity of macroinvertebrates. The lagoons spread for miles along Forestway Dr. There are multiple places to set up student groups. Along the dam, just north of Willow Rd. is a popular site for student groups. Access to water: Easy access right down to the water. No steep banks. Amenities: Port-aPotties are available seasonally. The lawn is available for lunch.
