Score Keeper Roles & Responsibilities • Obtain playing roster for both teams • Record goals, assists, saves and penalties on official scoresheet • Ensure scoresheet is signed and distributed following the game DO: •Pay attention to the game •Remain impartial •Respect all game participants •Ask the referee when uncertain about penalty or time expiration
DON’T: •Question a judgment call by an official •Use profanity or abusive language •Guess •Openly cheer for one team
Remember, the Official Scorer is an Off-Ice Official

List of Players • • • •
A team can have as many as 20 players with a maximum of 18 skaters Each team must designate a Head coach who is responsible for the team Each team can have one Captain and up to 2 Alternate Captains Goalies can serve as either Captain or Assistant Captain but do not have the same privileges as a skater (status only) • A list of players and corresponding numbers should be listed in the Home & Visitor sections of the scoresheet. • Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager and contact information should also be listed • Lists can be hand-written or applied via stickers to each page of the scoresheet

Penalties Minor/Bench Minor Penalty • 2-minute penalty; offending team (Team B) short-handed • Bench minor: a player of the offending team (Team B) who was on the ice at the time of the infraction shall serve the penalty • If the opposing team (Team A) scores a goal while the offending team (Team B) is short-handed, the offending team’s (Team B) penalty will end
• Coincidental minors: one player of each team is penalized at the same time Both players go to the penalty box and cannot leave until the first stoppage of play after the penalties expire Neither team plays short-handed Penalties do not need to be posted on the scoreboard Examples: Unsportsmanlike conduct, Holding, Roughing, Slashing, Tripping, Interference
Double Minor • 4-minute maximum; offending team short-handed • Count as 2 separate penalties Example: Unnecessary roughness

Penalties (continued) Major Penalty • 5-minute penalty • Offending team (Team B) plays short-handed • The opposing team (Team A) can score as many goals as possible, but the penalty doesn’t end until after 5 minutes has elapsed Example: Boarding, Roughing
Misconduct Penalty • 10-minute penalty • Offending team (Team B) is NOT short-handed • Offending player (Team B) cannot return to play until the first stoppage after the penalty expires Example: Disrespect to a Referee
Minor + Misconduct (aka 2-and-10) • 2 penalties: • 2 minute minor penalty; offending team (Team B) is shorthanded while alternate player serves 2-minute penalty • 10 minute misconduct penalty; offending player (Team B) penalized for 2 minutes + 10 minutes and a whistle 8

Offending player (Team B) is prohibited from further play in the game. 5-minute penalty served by another player Offending player will be suspended from all USA Hockey games and practices until the case has been handled by the PVAHA authorities Offending team is NOT short-handed Offending player cannot return to play until the first stoppage after the penalty expires Example: Deliberate intent to injure

Required if injury results Example: Boarding + an Injury 9
Penalty Shot • Most commonly awarded if: 1. A player, while in a scoring position, is fouled from behind and deprived of a scoring opportunity, or 2. A defensive player grabs or falls on the puck when it is in the goal crease
• An offensive player (Team A) takes control of the puck at center ice and has the opportunity to skate one-on-one against the opposing goalie (Team B) with no other players involved • The offended (Team A) team has the option to choose a Minor Penalty instead of a Penalty Shot.

Note the Period, offending player #, penalty called, # of minutes in the box, clock time and ultimately when the player returns to the ice. 15 team penalties = coach suspension (CBHL) 5 individual penalties=offending player suspended (CBHL)

Goalkeeping Stats
• Tally up shots on goal for each team for each period • Watch for goalie changes mid-game • Difference between Shots & Saves should equal the score

Post Game Responsibilities • Referees to sign scoresheet • Coaches sign scoresheet • Give out the following copies: Opposing team Sabres manager Referee in the instance of a game misconduct/match penalty
