The SUNY Athletic Conference One of the oldest and strongest Division III conferences in the nations, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) embarks upon its sixth decade with the same commitment to athletic and academic excellence that has remained the league’s guiding light since its formation.

No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego opens doors to the future with internships and study-abroad opportunities that consistently rate among the highest in the SUNY system.

Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Erin Skaradek Erin Skaradek, a 2008 graduate of Elmira College, starts her third season as the head coach of the Oswego State women’s tennis team for the 2010 season. Skaradek also begins her third season as an assistant coach for the Laker women’s basketball team in 2010-11. Last season, Skaradek coached SUNYAC Peter J. Cahill Award-winner Tiarra Garrow, who finished second in the No. 1 Singles Flight of the SUNYAC Championships. She also stepped in as interim head coach for the men’s tennis program in Spring 2010. Skaradek, a native of New Hartford, NY, played a vital role in the development of the Elmira women’s basketball program, serving three seasons as an assistant coach to the Soaring Eagles’ junior varsity team. During her tenure, Elmira claimed the Empire 8 Conference regular season title during the 2006-07 season, posted back-to-back runner-up finishes (2006, 2007) in the Conference post-season championship tournament, and earned repeat Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Championship berths (runner-up in 2006, quarterfinalist in 2007). During the 2005-06 season, Elmira was one of the ten most improved teams in NCAA Division III, finishing with a 19-11 record after finishing 8-17 the year before. Skaradek, who also served as a sports information student assistant and manager of the Soaring Eagles’ women’s varsity lacrosse team, graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in Childhood Education and Anthropology & Sociology. She also has a New York State teachers’ certification for childhood education (kindergarten to fifth grade).

“As a newer coach in the SUNYAC, my goal is to bring Oswego State women’s tennis program to a competitive and successful level. I believe with players like yourself this goal can be reached!”

2009-2010 Season in Review Lakers Improve In SUNYAC Standings The women’s tennis team battled through inclement weather and injuries for the majority of its schedule as the squad finished fifth at the SUNYAC Championships. The squad posted consecutive wins over Brockport and Elmira in the fall and closed out the year with a victory over Wells. Senior Tiarra Garrow was the top singles player for Oswego State at the #1 position en route to earning Second Team All-SUNYAC accolades. At the SUNYAC Championship tournament, Garrow claimed second place in #1 singles before being named the Peter J. Cahill Award winner, which is annually awarded to the conference’s most valuable player.
