The house has a stunningly beautiful approach down a long driveway where it stands in the privacy of glorious rolling parkland with an outlook over the River Severn. While enjoying a peaceful and quiet rural setting, the house is close to the village of Norton and has easy access to the market town of Bridgnorth (7 miles) and Telford (7 miles) from where the M54 provides onward travel to Shrewsbury (20 miles), Wolverhampton (13 miles) and the Midlands. Description Apley Hall is one of Shropshire's finest and most important country houses. Primarily built of Grinshill stone in Gothic style, the house was commissioned by Thomas Whitmore in 1811 and was designed to emulate a romantic castle overlooking the River Severn. The house is believed to be the inspiration behind P.G. Wodehouse's famous novel Blandings Castle.
